Registered Nurse/Registered Nurse Associate- ED -Adult, Children & MH
Wouldn't it be amazing to come to work and every day be different? One minute you're helping a pregnant lady give birth to her baby, the next you're outside ED receiving an adult trauma patient from the air ambulance; if this appeals to you then come and join us.
We are increasing our ED workforce to support staff development, patient experience, and a newly designed department.
Are you a children's nurse looking to expand your skills for the excitement of caring for adults and children in the emergency department?
Are you a Registered Mental Health Nurse and want to widen your skills to learn to care for all patients in the emergency department?
If all this sounds like you then we would love to welcome you to join Team ED.
We are no longer able to accept applications from newly qualified staff. Applicants will need 6 months' registered experience; previous applications need not apply.
Main duties of the job
We are a very busy major trauma unit, covering a diverse population. We are looking for self-motivated nurses to help take the department forward - you must be committed, flexible, and approachable.
You will be supported by a diverse and innovative Senior Nursing Team along with a team of Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and Practice Educators. We have a team of very supportive Consultants whom we work alongside every day.
About us
Our Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital provides care for both adults and children who attend with serious illness or injury. Due to our large catchment area, we currently provide for approximately 154,000 attendees per year. The department has an 8-bedded resuscitation area and 43 major cubicles.
The department is classified as a trauma unit and we have a purpose-built helipad onsite that will bring our most serious patients to the department via North West Air Ambulance.
We have a new, state-of-the-art staff facility for staff changing with access to a shower as well as a new staff room, education room, and wellbeing retreat for all staff.
We also have 2 Urgent Care Centres that are part of the emergency department and 2 Minor Injuries Units which are located at Accrington Victoria Hospital and Rossendale Health Centre.
Job responsibilities
You will have a suitable period of supernumerary in which you will be supported by the senior nursing team, the practice educators, and a mentor. During your supernumerary period, you will develop skills according to the RCN competencies that will enable you to work effectively in all areas of the department. We have a great induction programme.
The department welcomes new members of staff and has an open and friendly culture which is strongly supportive of nursing development and expansion of skills.
Your base would be within the emergency department; however, your post will cover you working in all areas of the department: majors, Resus, Urgent Care, and Paediatrics, and you may be asked to work at the UCC at Burnley and MIU at Accrington Victoria.
