We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Technician to join our Connections team to produce designs, quotations and serve our customers with electricity connections to our distribution network from LV up to and including 6.6kV / 11kV. We would welcome applications from those on lower grades seeking development opportunities and would be willing to offer training and coaching to suitable candidates with the appropriate behaviours. As a Design Technician you will be required to have a high level of technical expertise, skills and knowledge to produce high quality design and quotations for new and modified connections whilst providing excellent customer service. In addition to this you will need to demonstrate the ability to manage workloads to meet regulatory standards and customer expectations, adapt to business changes and identify the training needs of less experienced colleagues to deliver or arrange training. You will ensure designs are safe and minimum cost solutions in accordance with Electricity North West Licence Conditions, Common Connections Charging Methodology and Electricity North West Policy and Standards of compliance. The design work undertaken by the team includes new and modified connections for demand and distributed generation, requests to connect from third party connectors and diversions associated with a new connection. You will need to have familiararity and understanding of quotation processes for demand and generation applications, such as Electric Vehicle chargers, heat pumps, new housing and commercial building schemes. You will also be responsible for adhering to Ofgem s standards, data integrity and provide accurate forecasts of information for the range of projects under your control. You will need to be results focused to ensure the exceptional customer service provided is converted into accepted quotations to sustain a healthy order book to achieve your acceptance targets. Be able to assist customers in making buying decisions; Display a strong passion of standing out to customers by your quality of service; Willing to take the lead on improvement initiatives and drive changes through to a successful conclusion; Be self driven and have the ability to work under pressure to meet relevant business / regulatory targets. Demonstrate a high level of commercial awareness; Willingness to challenge, stretch yourself, continuously learn and grow. To be considered you will; Be working towards or hold an ONC or HNC level qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent or be working towards the qualification (preferable). Demonstrate a sound understanding of LV networks, 6.6kV / 11kV systems and substations, including switchgear, transformers, overhead, underground circuits and protection. Have experience with electrical engineering design and practices and have an in-depth knowledge of the electricity distribution business, including an understanding of regulatory and industry standards within electricity distribution. Have a sound technical knowledge of electrical network components, network operation, operational policy, design standards and specifications. Demonstrate an understanding of Construction Design Management regulations relating to utility projects. Demonstrate sound leadership and motivational skills with the ability to work in a team and help others in your team to improve. Have an in-depth knowledge / understanding of the competition in the connections market. Have a broad understanding of the construction industry and the particular role Electricity North West undertakes. Have an optimistic approach to problem solving. Tenaciously deal with and overcome objections. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own personal service and getting things done. Demonstrate strong empathy with clients and their buying journey. Have excellent customer service skills both face to face and by telephone. Have excellent written and verbal communication. Have excellent IT skills, in particular MS Office. Demonstrate confidentiality and discretion as appropriate. Be flexible and adaptable in your approach. Be highly organised with the ability to meet challenging deadlines. The advertised salary is for candidates who satisfy all of the above criteria and is the maximum we would offer.
