Blood Sciences Medical Laboratory Technician
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill a Band 3 Technician post within the Haematology Section of the Blood Science Department at Withybush General Hospital. The post is part time for 22.5 hours per week. Cover is required for Friday plus 2 additional days from Monday to Thursday.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a wide range of duties to include data entry into the laboratory computer system, handling and processing samples, loading and unloading samples from the Blood Sciences analysers. Full training will be provided upon commencement. This will provide an interesting job for the successful candidate in all aspects of laboratory work.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to be flexible to the needs of the service and to undertake a wide range of duties appropriate to the section as listed:
1. Sample handing including preparation, safe packaging for referral, storage and disposal.
2. Technical and analytical including preventative maintenance of laboratory analysers in readiness for sample analysis.
3. Service improvement to include awareness of developments within the laboratory and review/update of laboratory documentation.
4. Communication of results, responding to enquiries and effective teamworking.
5. Stock control of laboratory reagents and consumables.
6. Personal and people development including training of staff as required and participation in the PADR process.
7. Information processing to include input of demographics and results onto LIMS and maintenance of laboratory records.
8. Compliance with all relevant Health and Safety Regulations.
9. Quality including data collection, compliance with SOPs and performance of departmental audits.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
