We are looking for Senior iOS Software Engineers to join the iPlayer Mobile team.
BBC iPlayer is one of the UK’s most well-known and loved brands, and we’re looking for passionate team members to join our collaborative, cross-discipline, agile teams.
As a Senior Software Engineer for the iPlayer Mobile team, you will have the opportunity to have a leading role in an engineering team that delivers an intuitive and engaging streaming experience to millions of audience members every day.
To be successful in this role you will need a good understanding of object-oriented programming, clean architecture, and test-driven development. We usually work in Swift/Objective-C (iOS) so experience with these languages and the mobile ecosystem is essential.
We are a small, self-organising and highly collaborative team of engineers, testers, UX designers, technical architects and product owners. Interview Process:
Shortlisted candidates for this Senior iOS Software Engineer will be required to attend a two-stage interview process.
The two stages will consist of:
• A values based Interview – This will consist of values-based questions (approximately 60 Mins).
• A coding task – This will consist of a coding assessment, candidates will be given information on the coding task prior to the interview so you can prepare (approximately 60 Mins).
Main Responsibilities
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary colleagues to breakdown product requirements into technical deliverables.
• Contribute to the technical implementation of product features as part of a team or pair programming.
• Advocate for and follow engineering best practices within the team.
• Ensure engineering output is high quality, fit for purpose, and thoroughly tested.
• Drive continuous team improvement through fast feedback loops.
• Share knowledge within the team and across iPlayer.
• Support recruitment and training of new team members.
Are you the right candidate?
• Strong iOS development experience with a solid understanding of architecture and design principles.
• Proficiency in Swift and SwiftUI, with working knowledge of Objective-C and UIKit.
• Deep understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and decoupled design.
• Demonstrated experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) to produce high-quality, reliable software.
• Proficiency in version control systems like Git and working in collaborative coding environments.
• Proven ability to write maintainable code in team-based projects.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to evolving software requirements.
• Experience with Continuous Integration/Deployment in mobile apps.
• Web services integration (REST, JSON) in a mobile environment.
• Knowledge of Amazon Web Services.
• Experience of building accessible applications.
• Experience of mentoring and coaching more junior team members.
