About the Role
Are you an experienced Maintenance Manager looking to make a real impact in a dynamic and fast-paced environment? Join the team and lead a dedicated group of 10+ Engineers across the multiple sites in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the plant and equipment. Based in Birmingham, with occasional travel to other UK locations, this role offers the opportunity to drive continuous improvement and maintain high standards across a multi-site operation.
Key Responsibilities
* Team Leadership: Supervise, motivate, and coordinate the activities of a team of 10+ Engineers to ensure maximum effectiveness and resource utilization.
* Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Lead a proactive approach to equipment maintenance, ensuring all PPM schedules are completed on time.
* Breakdown Management: Oversee rapid responses to breakdowns, ensuring downtime is minimized and detailed reports are created for incidents exceeding one hour.
* Compliance and Safety: Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are followed, including the effective management of permits to work, contractor oversight, and adherence to company policies.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including logistics and manufacturing, to prioritize and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
* Inventory Management: Manage spare parts inventory, including ordering and booking out parts, and liaising with contractors/suppliers when needed.
* Performance Monitoring: Ensure KPIs are met and use analytical skills to troubleshoot and identify improvements in maintenance processes.
* Continuous Improvement: Encourage a team approach to maintenance, driving innovation and improved practices across the sites.
* Deputization: Act as a deputy for the Head of Engineering when required.
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience managing a team of 10+ Engineers in a manufacturing or automated environment.
* Strong leadership and people management skills.
* Knowledge and experience with computerised planned maintenance systems (essential).
* Sound understanding of legal compliance, Health & Safety, and food safety standards.
* Bias in electrical and/or mechanical qualifications (Level 3 minimum), with a time-served apprenticeship.
* Strong data and analytical skills to drive decision-making and troubleshoot effectively.
* Ability to plan and schedule work efficiently while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.
* Experience working with temperature control and refrigeration systems is desirable.
The Work Environment
You’ll primarily work in production areas but may also work in plant rooms, offices, and occasionally outdoors. The role involves exposure to warm, humid, cold, freezing, or wet environments for short periods, with suitable protective equipment provided.
