Travel This opportunity requires the successful candidate to travel to our research laboratory and unique outdoor testing facilities, in Buxton, Derbyshire SK17 9JN, at least one day per week. Job description We are looking for a Geospatial Data Technician to join the Geospatial Team, part of the Analysis & Risk Group within HSE's Science Division. This is an excellent opportunity to use your Geographical Information systems (GIS) skills to contribute to valuable operational and scientific projects, providing services and undertaking research and analysis to support HSEs regulation and enforcement duties. You will be part of a team of geospatial specialists and there will be opportunities to collaborate with scientific and technical experts across many other disciplines. Your responsibilities will include: Producing maps in support of our land use planning work and in response to ad hoc requests, following standard procedures. Helping to manage and maintain core geospatial datasets used by HSE. Analysis of geospatial data to answer technical and research questions and communicating the results. Running the automated data update processes for our externally facing planning advice web app. Performing quality checks on other team members' outputs, following standard procedures. Person specification Essential Skills and Criteria Competence in using geospatial technologies (e.g. ArcGIS Desktop/Professional, MapInfo, etc.). Experience of managing and working with datasets e.g. vector and raster geospatial data, spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge or experience of programming languages such as python, R, SQL Server, etc. The ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and re-prioritising to suit changing demands. The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
