This is a fixed term 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Pathologist in Cellular Pathology to cover a vacant post predominantly in Head & Neck Pathology. This post will be available immediately for a period of 6 months. The post will provide a service which includes biopsy reporting, cytology reporting, and surgical specimen cut up and reporting. The post will be based at the Department of Cellular Pathology, Level 5 Bexley Wing and Chancellor Wing, St James's Hospital, Leeds. Applicants should have established skills in Cellular Pathology reporting and cut up. Excellent communication and team working skills are also essential. The successful applicant should hold accreditation with the RCPath and should be registered or within six months of being registered with the GMC. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
Main duties of the job
To deliver care to patients with pathology service provision including:
1. Biopsy and Cytology reporting
2. Specimen cut up
3. Excision (benign and oncology) reporting
To work alongside trainees and Consultants in other relevant site specialist teams within the Bexley wing and Chancellors wing at SJUH. No on-call or out of hours work is expected. To contribute to teaching, audit, research, and new developments within the Trust as required.
Job description
The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for Pathology/Cellular Pathology. The annual job plan review may result in a revised job plan. There may be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area.
Proposed Job Plan
The post consists of 10PAs with 8.5PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA). This job plan will fit together with colleagues' job-plans with a rota of work allocation to ensure robust cover.

Essential
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Cellular Pathology
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
* Should have completed a recognised training programme in Cellular Pathology
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
Desirable
* Specialist experience in Head & Neck Pathology
* Specialist training in Head & Neck Pathology
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
* Attendance at recognised management course.
Qualifications
Essential
* MB BS (or equivalent)
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
Desirable
* Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.
Language Skills
Essential
* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following:
* passing a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider
* having a GCSE, A level, Scottish National Qualification level 4 or 5, Scottish Higher or Advanced Higher in English, gained through study at a UK school that you began when you were under 18
* having a degree level academic qualification that was taught in English. If you studied abroad, you will need to apply through Ecctis (formerly UK NARIC) for confirmation that your qualification is equivalent to a UK bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD
* You do not need to prove your knowledge of English if you have already passed an English Language assessment that is accepted by the relevant regulated professional body.
Teaching and Research
