Overview of the role
The core accountabilities for the Equalities Co-ordinator will be to manage and advise on all aspects of and promote equality throughout the prison for prisoners and staff, ensuring HMP Dovegate is fully compliant with all requirements.
You will be responsible for reviewing and developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with law, legislation, and NOMS policy. You will also be accountable for implementing systems to collate monthly statistics for performance reporting and developing effective equality strategies based on protected characteristics.
You will serve as the point of contact for communications related to prisoners, ensuring they receive appropriate information during induction, and will provide equality inductions for all new staff, offering guidance and support to all staff.
Additional responsibilities include implementing HIMP and internal audit actions, carrying out peer audits supporting other sites, and maintaining the process for responding to DIRFs and quality checking responses.
Other duties include:
1. Supporting Protected Characteristic Forums and their Leads.
2. Coordinating and maintaining the Equality Action Plan, ensuring integration into the establishment PIP.
3. Managing the EIA process, including risk prioritization and quality assurance, and participating in peer checks for other sites.
4. Preparing, contributing to, and attending DEAT meetings.
5. Maintaining, checking, and analyzing equality data (including NOMIS).
6. Establishing positive links with relevant forums and services.
7. Leading, assisting, or advising in investigations.
About you
The successful candidate will demonstrate substantial experience in an Equalities/Diversity role. It is advantageous to hold an Equality and Diversity Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
A key aspect of this role involves delivering training to new starters; therefore, holding a PTTLS qualification or higher is required.
You should demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and proficiency in IT systems, including all Microsoft Office packages such as Word and Excel.
Previous management or supervisory experience is essential.
