Job summary
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) is proud to have been awarded a prestigious NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) (£72m boost for commercial research to benefit the health of the nation | NIHR). This award is set to make a significant impact on commercial research and improve the nation's health. As part of this exciting development, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager to join our Research and Innovation Directorate.
This is a key leadership role, where you will be responsible for the development, operational management, and financial oversight of the CRDC. You will play a pivotal part in driving the centre's core focus areas, including inclusivity, accessibility, and the expansion of strategic partnerships with NHS, academic, and commercial sectors such as biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced Commercial/Industry Research Manager to take on this high-profile position and contribute to the development of UHNM's CRDC. This new role will be instrumental in shaping the future strategic objectives of the Research and Innovation Directorate, through collaboration, education, and awareness, creating new commercial research opportunities for UHNM staff.
As CRDC Manager, you will work closely with regional and national partners, strengthening UHNM's position within the broader UK CRDC network and ensuring a strong voice in the national arena. The role requires a proactive leader who can manage multiple complex projects and bring together diverse teams with shared goals across all specialities within UHNM and beyond.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Masters Degree (or equivalent senior experience) in a business, biomedical or health science related subject.
2. Evidence of continuing professional development.
3. Budget / Research financial management qualification or experience.
Desirable
1. Project Management Qualification II.
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
Essential
1. Experience of working with Commercial Research Sector partners.
2. Experience of working in a Clinical Research Facility/Unit or managing the delivery of Research within an NHS Setting.
3. Expertise in strategically planning and analysing the needs of service across a complex environment.
4. Experience of business planning and developing business cases for funding, including applications to external funding bodies where appropriate.
5. Expertise in developing and reporting key performance indicators in relation to clinical research, clinical trials, clinical research operations such as occupancy, research outputs and financial data.
6. Extensive experience of being involved in NHS Research Delivery.
7. Leadership skills.
Desirable
1. Experience of delivering training programmes & presentations to various levels of staff.
