About The Hospital: The Hospital is a 600-bed, single-site general hospital situated on the outskirts of Chester. The Trust provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services, and obstetric services to a population of approximately 250,000 residents in and around Chester. About the Department: The Cellular Pathology department at The Hospital is fully accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 15189:2012 and licensed by the HTA under the Human Tissue Act 20042. The department is led by a team of consultants who provide support and advice on the clinical significance and interpretation of diagnostic tests. The department aims to provide a comprehensive, cost-efficient service, responding to the needs of its users. Typical Job Plan: A Consultant Histopathologist will have a job plan that includes: Direct Clinical Care: This includes activities such as multidisciplinary team meetings, surgical cut-up, and emergency work. Consultants are responsible for co-operating in drawing up rotas and agreeing on the distribution of work. Supporting Professional Activities: Time allocated for CPD, maintaining and enhancing sub-specialty knowledge and skills, audit, clinical governance, external quality assurance schemes, teaching and training, departmental meetings, and general administration. Additional NHS Responsibilities : The Head of Department spends approximately 1 PA per week on general administration3.
