For this role you must be fully flexible Monday to Sunday. You will be allocated shifts on a rotational basis. You must be able to work a combination of 8am -8pm, 8am -2pm and 2pm -8pm.
You will not be able to provide us with your availability and we cannot allocate you your preferred shifts. Please consider this carefully before applying.
The Home
Braefield Nursing Home is based in the picturesque village of Connor, located between Antrim and Ballymena. Braefield is a 56 bedded Nursing Home spread over 3 units. Braefield Nursing Home is currently registered with the RQIA for 18 individuals with nursing and mental health needs, 17 individuals with physical disability requiring nursing needs and 21 individuals with dementia nursing needs. The categories of care we cater to are Mental Health Nursing, Frail and Elderly Nursing, and Dementia Nursing. The team at Braefield Nursing Home are very dedicated in providing a high standard of person-centred care.
The Role
Mental Health Care Assistants at Healthcare Ireland play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of our Homes, providing compassionate support and assistance to Residents to ensure their independence and comfort. Mental Health Care Assistants are part of our frontline team, responsible for delivering personalised care and assistance with activities of daily living.
Our Mental Health Care Assistants also provide emotional support and companionship to Residents, fostering meaningful relationships and promoting a sense of compassion; an advocacy for the rights and preferences of our residents.
Collaborating with Nurses, Wellbeing team, families and external healthcare professions to ensure holistic and person-centred care that promotes independence and quality of life, Mental Health Care Assistants are essential in our mission to provide excellent care.

About The Role
Main Responsibilities
* Manage unpredictable and distressing situations in a calm and logical way
* Participate in activities, motivating and supporting residents to get involved
* Assist Residents where required with personal care tasks and mobility while promoting independence and dignity.
* Assess and observe the emotional and physical wellbeing of residents, recognising changes and reporting as necessary in a timely manner
* Support the Residents to live independently by teaching life skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, taking public transport and budgeting.
* Maintain accurate records, communicating effectively with residents and their families
* Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Home Manager.

Desired Criteria
* Educated to NVQ 2 level
* Previous experience in health and social care- this can be on a voluntary basis or experience gained caring for a friend or family member with mental ill-health
Required Criteria
* To be a good listener, showing patience, compassion, empathy and understanding
* Have a basic understanding of the main mental health conditions experienced by residents
* The Right to Work in the UK
* Be NISCC registered or eligible to register
