Position: 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Salford, Greater Manchester Start Date: January 2024 Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide support for a child with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a Key Stage 2 setting. Key Responsibilities: Provide individual support to a child with SEMH needs, ensuring their inclusion in all aspects of school life. Implement tailored strategies to support the child's emotional well-being, helping them to regulate their behaviour and manage their emotions effectively. Assist in creating and maintaining a calm and structured environment for the child to work in, reducing distractions and providing clear expectations. Help the child develop positive social skills and foster meaningful relationships with peers and staff. Support the child in accessing the curriculum, making adjustments as necessary to accommodate their learning style and needs. Encourage the child's independence in academic tasks while offering appropriate support when required. Monitor and track the child's progress, reporting on emotional, social, and academic development to the class teacher and SENCO. Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to implement personalised plans and interventions. Use positive reinforcement techniques to promote desirable behaviour and help the child build resilience and coping strategies. Assist in preparing resources and creating a positive, engaging learning environment for the child. The Ideal Candidate: Experience working with children who have SEMH needs or other behavioural challenges, ideally in a school setting. A good understanding of SEMH and the impact it can have on a child's learning and development. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with the child, staff, and parents. Knowledge of behaviour management strategies, with the ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive in challenging situations. The ability to adapt and respond flexibly to the changing needs of the child. A proactive and solution-focused approach to overcoming barriers to learning and behaviour. Experience working in a 1:1 support role is desirable, but not essential. Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or training in SEMH-specific strategies, are desirable. Why Join Us?
