Job Title: Operations Manager (sheet metal fabricators/subcontract manufacturing)
The role will involve a promotion up to general manager within 6 months and an increase in salary to suit.
Salary package: £62,000.00 per annum, moving up to £65,000.00 per annum upon moving into the General Manager Position.
Location: Darlington (primary location), Newcastle (secondary location)
Company Overview:
Our client is a long-established privately run sheet metal fabricator with over 50 years in the subcontractor sector, successfully supplying into the Off-Highway Yellows goods sector.
You'll join the company during a period of significant investment, which has enabled an increase in turnover and headcount. The plan is to continue with this successful strategy.
The company operates from a circa 40,000 sq ft facility based just south of Newcastle Upon Tyne, as well as a second operation based on the outskirts of Darlington of 120,000 sq ft, making our client one of the largest fabrication facilities in Northern England.
Position Overview:
Our client seeks a General Manager who is a born leader, with experience in overseeing all business operations, human resources, finance, banks, and communications. The ideal candidate will be an expert communicator with a strong ability to delegate responsibility and collaborate across departments.
The General Manager will report directly to the shareholders and is expected to maintain and add to the wide-ranging blue-chip customer base enjoyed by the company.
Objectives of this Role:
1. Develop a strategic plan for optimized productivity.
2. Review and improve organizational effectiveness by developing processes and overseeing employees.
3. Adhere to company standards for excellence and quality.
4. Seek out opportunities for expansion and growth by developing new business relationships.
5. Provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee day-to-day operations over two sites based in the Northeast of England.
2. Lead a total of 250 operational/workforce staff and a senior management team of 8 individuals.
3. Maintain project timelines and budgets.
4. Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans.
5. Delegate responsibilities and enforce all policies, procedures, standards, and training programs.
6. Resolve internal staff conflicts efficiently.
7. Implement the planned upgrade of the ERP System.
8. Report to shareholders on a monthly basis on actual profitability versus set targets.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Proven success in a managerial role.
2. Strong decision-making ability.
3. Excellent communication, collaboration, and delegation skills.
4. Proven ability to develop and achieve financial plans.
5. Ability to motivate and lead employees.
6. Strong working knowledge of operational procedures.
7. Strong and detailed knowledge of steel fabrication and/or metal pressing.
8. Excellent man-management skills.
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or related field.
2. Engineering background in steel/fabrication or metal pressing sector.
3. Management experience in the steel/fabrication sector.
4. Experience in conducting performance evaluations.
5. Working knowledge of human-resources processes.
The Package:
Salary package: £62,000.00 per annum, moving up to £65,000.00 upon moving into the General Manager Position.
Fully expensed company car.
