The consultancy regularly undertakes the façade design of prestigious projects across a range of sectors including education, stadia, transport, residential and commercial for a range of clients from scheme concept through to detailed design and construction monitoring. Their specialist glass and facade engineering team have contributed their expertise in glass to many high profile award-winning projects. Working in partnership with architects and glazing contractors across the UK, they deliver ingenious glass designs that add striking and often dramatic features to building exteriors and interiors. Spanning the residential, commercial, retail, leisure and education sectors, the consultancy's glass and facade engineering team creates a distinctive look and feel through innovative designs for elements such as building façades, curtain walling, glass floors, balustrades and staircases. The consultancy's glass and facade engineering services include: Architectural metalwork - bespoke design in all metals, including stainless steel, aluminium, bronze and brass Bolted glass - design and modelling, determining the correct glass specification to prevent failure Balustrading - detailed design analysis of bespoke balustrading to the latest glass design codes Curtain walling - tailored solutions for all curtain walling requirements Glass floors - innovative glass flooring solutions for every type of building Expert advice - helping to resolve a wide range of legal disputes involving the use of glass Responsibilities of the role Execute and coordinate projects, providing high quality technical design Produce technical design information including drawings, calculations, specifications and reports Review and approve reports, designs, drawings, sketches and calculations in accordance with quality procedures Manage the preparation of feasibility studies and reports Undertake structural surveys and produce reports giving findings, discussion, conclusions and recommendations Undertake the project management and financial control of small and medium sized projects Liaise effectively with clients, local authorities and other design team members Supervise and monitor the use of computer-based systems to ensure these are used correctly Supervise and support junior members of the team Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals Adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures Deliver 'best practice' Proactive in self-development Plan site investigation works Prepare design and progress reports Deliver agreed business development targets Assist the marketing department Obtain and review quotes for investigation works Manage the appointments and work of sub-contractors carrying out investigation works Coordinate work undertaken by external sub-contractors Attend and input at design meetings and site meetings, and record actions Undertake site inspections, record findings and advise on any required actions Coordinates design to the brief and approves information deliverables Develops the Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP) and manage the availability of competent resources to execute project Review the information produced by the Task Team against the brief to ensure that the information deliverables are consistent with the required Suitability Code Identify and communicate risks associated with the information issue to the delivery team Review information deliverables ensuring that the information produced by the Task Team is compliant with the Project SMP (standard method and procedure) prior to being shared Key Skills: Essential: HND/HNC in civil or structural engineering An innate understanding of structural engineering and façade physics Very good understanding of engineering principles Competent with computer analysis of structures and design of structural elements in steel, stainless steel, aluminium, timber and glass Experience of briefing CAD technicians Experience in delegating, supervising and mentoring junior team members Good organisational/time management skills Proactive approach to work Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level Understanding of complex construction procedures Conversant in designing to British Standards/Eurocodes Good understanding of CDM regulations and responsibilities of a designer Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work within the ISO 19650 environment and associated processes Preferable: University degree in civil or structural engineering Working towards attaining with ICE or IStructE Working knowledge of SCIA and Tekla Building Designer Company benefits include employee ownership, a company bonus scheme, flexible and hybrid working, the ability to buy and sell annual leave, as well as private healthcare, to name but a few.
