We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Endoscopy Decontamination Team full time. In this role you will be responsible for the timely and safe decontamination of specialist Endoscopy equipment, communicating with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to meet the department's workload, and adhering to COSHH and Health and Safety guidance. This role requires flexible working between Musgrove Park Hospital and Bridgwater Community Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role include:
1. The decontamination of expensive and delicate flexible endoscopes including manual cleaning and the use of Endoscope Washer Disinfectors.
2. The handling of chemicals and detergents required for the decontamination process adhering to COSHH regulations.
3. The use of the TDoc traceability system to ensure all flexible endoscopes are tracked through use and processing.
4. Performing daily and weekly checks of machines to ensure they are fit for purpose.
5. To attend regular training updates and reviews.
6. To perform stock rotation and cleaning of work areas.
7. Communicating with the Endoscopy Decontamination Lead Endoscopy nursing team and other services.

Job responsibilities
Communication and Key Working Relationships:
1. To communicate all relevant information within the team to ensure the continual running of the service.
2. To communicate with enquiries from users and other members of healthcare staff in a polite and helpful manner, seeking senior staff advice where required.
3. To attend and actively participate in the Department's meetings.
4. To respond to urgent requests regarding priority equipment processing via communication from the coordinator or Matron on a daily basis.
5. To inform the Decontamination Team Leader of any raw material shortages and ensure stock is rotated.
6. To report any accidents or untoward occurrences involving patients, staff or visitors to the Matron or Team Leader.
7. To work under supervision but with a need to concentrate at all times.
8. To work as part of a team and liaise with the Multidisciplinary Team in a professional manner at all times.

Policy, Service, Research & Development Responsibility:
1. Meet the demands of the department's workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards which will be measured by in-process checks and non-conformance reports.
2. To use manual dexterity and concentration for the disassembly and reassembly of the reusable medical devices in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
3. To operate decontamination equipment and carry out routine tests in accordance with the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedule, Quality Standards and Guidance.
4. To undertake duties as required, consistent with the responsibility of the grade and needs of the service.
5. To refer appropriate issues and raise uncertainties with senior staff.
6. To attend all statutory and mandatory training and Induction as defined by the organisation and service needs and other courses considered appropriate.
Responsibility for Finance, Equipment & Other Resources:
1. Responsible for the cleaning, decontamination and handling of expensive delicate endoscopic equipment where dismantling/re-assembly and processing must be carried out with extreme care.
2. Care and maintenance of complex decontamination processing machines.
3. To operate complex washer/drier decontamination machines after training.
4. To carry out and document tests of machinery in use on a daily basis.
5. To ensure equipment is loaded correctly into automated washer disinfectors and items have been scanned onto the departments instrument tracking system (TDOC).
6. To be able to use IT systems.
Responsibility for Supervision, Leadership & Management:
1. To ensure personal protective equipment is worn in all areas as specified in the departmental operational manual.
2. To carry out and document tests of machinery in use on a daily basis.
3. To adhere to the requirements of working with a controlled environment.
4. To be capable of working alone and unsupervised but ensure documented operational procedures are adhered to.
Any Other Specific Tasks Required:

6. To be responsible for approving loads after decontamination cycles are complete by carrying out various quality checks to ensure instruments are safely decontaminated before use.
7. To ensure production areas are stocked up and stock levels maintained.
8. To participate in the cleaning and maintenance of all the work areas to ensure high standards of cleanliness are achieved.
9. To report any accidents or untoward incidents to staff, patients or visitors following correct trust procedure.
10. To ensure specific instruments are checked after the washing process for cleanliness and highlight any non-conformities by informing the nurse in charge and completing the relevant documentation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE English and Maths, minimum grade C or 4.
* Level 2 Healthcare Science Assistant (Decontamination) or willingness to work towards.
Experience
* Previous knowledge of decontamination and working with a quality management system.
* Experience of producing quality products within a defined performance criteria.
Additional Criteria
* Able to demonstrate a good standard of English Language.
* Demonstrate awareness of the importance of working as part of a team.
* Able to communicate effectively in difficult or stressful situations.
* Effective communicator, both verbally and written.
