Data Platforms Product Owner – Consumption and Enterprise Data Products

Elanco is investing in its data and information landscape to become more data-driven than ever before, and the Data Engineering and Platforms organization plays a key part of this transformation. As a result of our separation from our former parent company, Eli Lilly, Elanco has created a data environment that leverages modern technologies, platforms, and concepts to support all functions of the business.
Reporting to the Director - Data Platforms, the Data Platforms Product Owner is a key thought leader and accountable for the capabilities, products, and services within our Consumption and Enterprise Data Products technology portfolio. These assets are built on the Azure Suite, Databricks, Power BI, and Collibra. This role drives the continuous evolution of platform and dataset capabilities and adoption, enabling sustainable scaling and value realisation. A strong passion for data and technology is critical to success and making a positive impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accountable for the delivery and enhancement of the products and services in the Consumption portfolio, currently comprised of Power BI and critical enterprise datasets which span all Elanco functions.
2. Set and evangelize your portfolio by building and sharing roadmaps, engaging in business planning activities, and partnering with key stakeholders (including functional data stewards) to understand unmet and unidentified needs.
3. Manage your portfolio’s backlog, owning prioritization and making tough trade-off decisions.
4. Continuously evangelize your portfolio’s capabilities, products, and services by running engagement activities, demos, and showcases.
5. Serve as a key technical point of contact for your portfolio.
6. Maintain strong and active relationships with appropriate vendors to understand how their capabilities can be applied to best meet Elanco’s needs and also to escalate any relevant issues to them.
7. Evaluate additional solutions/enhancements to enable and drive metrics for adoption, performance and cost optimization, usability, quality, scalability, and ultimately increased value through regular releases.
8. Collaborate with support teams to establish suitable operational and service management processes for your portfolio, driving regular meetings as appropriate.
9. Analyse and communicate the cost of your portfolio, breaking elements down to functional and project areas when necessary.
10. Engage in communities, both internal and external, to share, educate, and inspire.
11. Actively stay up to date with emerging technology capabilities and trends connected to your portfolio, guiding the rest of the team on how to interpret and leverage the best opportunities.
12. Serve as a point of escalation for any significant issues impacting the services and platforms in your portfolio.
13. Ensure that your portfolio’s products and services are appropriately qualified and validated, authoring content as needed and following IT Quality Processes associated with a global pharmaceutical company such as Change Management, Access Roster Reviews, Corrective and Preventive Actions, etc.

14. Extensive experience in technology service, project, and product leadership, managing and advancing complex, global environments.
15. Extensive experience delivering enterprise technology solutions.
16. Extensive experience working with public cloud services, especially Azure and Google.
17. Extensive experience working with data tools, technologies, and platforms – preferably those that are part of your portfolio.
18. Experience with peripheral technologies, especially Databricks.
19. Demonstrable learning agility for new technologies and platforms.
20. Experience defining and executing large-scale, transformative strategic plans.
21. Significant, demonstrable ability to effectively prioritize within a global environment and drive quantitatively assessed learning and progress.
22. Demonstrable emotional intelligence, stakeholder management, negotiation, deep thinking, and time management skills.
23. The ability to translate between stakeholder groups, successfully and succinctly conveying a highly technical topic to a non-technical stakeholder group.
24. Strong personal accountability and organization.
25. Comfort driving decisions and acting despite ambiguity.
26. Ability to drive diverse groups and agendas to productive consensus.
27. Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a technical discipline, or the equivalent work experience.
