We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Senior Engineer to join our team in Edinburgh. This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of three days spent in the office a week.
What does the role involve?
Working within our Civil Structures team on bridges and ancillary civil structures projects, you will act as Lead Design Engineer to undertake and check the delivery of design solutions and associated outputs and coordinate with other disciplines. You will provide technical guidance, support and training to colleagues and assist, where practicable, in mentoring and the development of others.
You will be involved in projects from conception to completion including; supporting the Project Manager to clarify the project brief, agree deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance and control strategy; establishing project checking and approval arrangements and managing internal project start-up meetings; undertaking significant elements of the detailed design and the checking of outputs as directed: e.g. calculations, drawings, sketches, reports etc to achieve the optimum solution for the project; assessing, documenting and communicating design changes to the Project Manager; being aware of work requirements and taking personal responsibility in delivering this to agreed time, cost and quality requirements; reviewing projects on completion and recommending/implementing improvements to technical policy, processes and design solutions as appropriate.
To be successful in this role you’ll possess:
1. A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
2. 5+ years relevant post qualification structures design experience and a strong successful record of project delivery in structures design including bridges and ancillary civils structures.
3. Significant experience with design to Eurocodes and DMRB.
4. Proficient with structural design and analysis software such as STRAP, Autodesk Bridge Design, LUSAS or similar.
5. Significant previous experience of providing project governance on projects.
6. The ability to gain insight beyond a client’s immediate need to identify opportunities that benefit the client through meaningful and productive relationships.
7. Ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English.
8. Chartered Membership of the ICE or IStructE, or working towards chartership with a view to imminent completion of IPD.
9. A full UK driving licence.
