Location: Lanark Locality Office and Unpaid Work Team, Auchintibber, Blantyre
South Lanarkshire Justice Social Work are looking to employ two Peer Support workers with lived experience of substance use on a full time basis within our Lanark Justice locality team and our Unpaid Work Team.
These roles build on our ongoing commitment to embedding people with lived experience within our service. The roles will play a key part in improving the service we provide for individuals in conflict with the law and experiencing difficulties related to substance use.
The successful candidate will work alongside Social Workers and Unpaid Work Case Managers to support individuals to engage with Community Payback Orders (CPOs) imposed by the Court; promote access to suitable treatment and recovery-based activities in the community and encourage engagement with services to achieve long-term desistance from offending as well as improving their wellbeing and life chances. The successful candidate will understand the underlying factors that lead to offending behaviour and the impact of alcohol or drug use on individuals, families, and communities. They will also have insight into the recovery journey and the emotional and practical support required to promote recovery in the long term.
Applicants as detailed in the Job Profile will require to have a level of lived experience of substance use and be in recovery as well as being a good communicator with an ability to develop productive relationships with individuals in conflict with the law. The successful candidate will require good organisation and time management skills and applicants should be good at working under pressure; particularly when faced with adversity and challenging behaviours. Due to the nature of this role, it would be important to have a level of flexibility as there may be occasions when working later and at weekends may be required to support service users.
