The purpose of this exciting new role is to create, develop and implement our Emerging Talent strategy adding value to our DEIB and ESG goals and ambitions. The role will actively promote Matalan as an employer of choice to young people and those in our community, managing key engagement initiatives and working alongside our talent attraction team.
You will lead and develop two key areas of our people agenda.
Emerging Talent
Develop and Align Emerging Talent Strategy: Design and execute a comprehensive emerging talent strategy covering both attraction and development across business areas which also considers our ESG and DEIB initiatives.
Build Strategic Partnerships: Establish strong networks with schools, colleges, universities, and relevant providers to advance the Emerging Talent Strategy and ESG objectives.
Collaborate Across Teams: Work with the Talent, People, and broader business teams to ensure seamless planning and delivery of talent and career development initiatives.
Administer Apprenticeship Levy:Manage the apprenticeship levy account, including budgeting, transfers, and internal colleague engagement with apprenticeship opportunities.
Upskill Line Managers: Provide training to line managers to foster an environment that supports the growth and retention of emerging talent.
Ensure Compliance: Partner with Legal and Health & Safety teams to maintain compliance and mitigate risks in all programmes.
Engage Key Stakeholders: Maintain relationships to drive initiatives like Tailor-Made Qualifications, Leadership programs, and Emerging Talent strategies.
Evaluate and Evolve Programmes: Monitor and analyse data with the People Data Team to assess and improve the effectiveness of emerging talent initiatives.
Support Talent Apprentices: Oversee the development and management of our Talent Apprentice, ensuring their success in the role and apprenticeship programme.
DEIB:
Lead with the implementation: Execution of our UNITY (DEIB) strategy
Develop and Implement DEIB Strategies: Design and execute diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives to foster an inclusive workplace culture aligned with the organisation’s values and goals.
Facilitate Training and Education: Commission and deliver workshops, training sessions, and seminars to raise awareness and enhance understanding of our UNITY principles among employees and leadership.
Analyse and Report on DEIB Metrics: Collect and assess data related to representation, employee engagement, and UNITY programme impact, providing regular reports and actionable insights.
Collaborate with Stakeholders: Partner with People and leadership teams, colleague communities, and external organisations to integrate DEIB practices into hiring, retention, and promotion strategies.
Advocate for Inclusive Policies: Review and recommend updates to organisational policies, procedures, and practices to remove systemic barriers and promote equity and belonging.
To be successful in this role you will have excellent stakeholder management skills both internally and externally.
Have advanced knowledge of the early careers agenda and funding routes
A passion and knowledge of DEIB topics and best practice
Experience and preference for project/ agile led working
The ability to coach and mentor others including direct and non-direct reports.
The ability to communicate across all levels with knowledge and strategic alignment
