Technical Inventory Specialist- Defence

Serco is carrying out a Transformation from the current CPMS contract to the DMS-NG contract. As part of this, the approach to Engineering (vessel maintenance, repair, and overhaul) requires development and modernisation, coupled with the implementation of a new Serco Engineering and Asset Management System (SEAMS). The Engineering workstream of the Transformation programme includes a review and refresh of the Inventory management processes and data held within the existing system to form the basis of the new system within SEAMS.
A key priority of the role will be to review and update existing processes and inventories, updating and migrating current data into the new SEAMS environment and then implementation of new processes consistently across all sites. To achieve this an opportunity has been created to facilitate a suitably qualified and experienced stores and inventory professional with inventory database experience to lend their expertise to the project for a minimum 6-month term contract.
The key purpose of this role is to support the development & implementation of Stores & Inventory management best practices and to define associated processes and procedures aligned to the delivery of maintenance, repair, and overhaul across all sites in the DMS-NG contract. Furthermore, this role will provide support for transition of these functions into a new integrated engineering management system (SEAMS). This role will be a subject matter expert for engineering stores and inventory operations including purchasing, data entry and stock control and will be accountable for creation of up-to-date inventory lists and methodologies and to assist and instruct and personnel in their use and upkeep.
This role is envisaged to be a 6-month position, with potential for an extension to 12 months. However, this is dependent on strategic positions agreed in the early part of the work. For internal candidates this role will be viewed as a secondment
What you’ll need to do the role:
* Able to achieve SC clearance.
* Hold a full UK driving licence and be flexible to periodic travel to our naval sites located in Portsmouth, Devonport & Scotland.
* Previous experience in engineering inventory management using associated maintenance and spares database systems e.g. AMOS, MAXIMO.
* Experience in managing technical stores operations, maintaining inventory, and exhibiting knowledge of current best practice processes and procedures.
* Experience in managing purchase requisitions associated with engineering maintenance activities.
* Experience in undertaking stock audit activities and managing discrepancies.
* Previous interaction with various technical management, afloat staff and purchasing teams with good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Collaborative mindset, with a desire to understand different points of view, and to use this to develop optimal processes.
* Good organisational and IT skills.
