Salary up to £66,000 and up to £5,000 relocation allowance.
Due to retirement, Clare Vets is on the lookout for a passionate and dedicated Mixed Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, supportive, and growing team!
Our facilities
As a well-established mixed practice, we primarily care for small animals, with less than a quarter of our work dedicated to farm animals and a small amount of equine cases. Our small animal patients range from dogs and cats to rabbits, small furries, and even some exotics. Large animal work includes a good mixture of dairy, beef, sheep, and equine.
Our purpose-built practice offers a modern and well-equipped environment, featuring four consulting rooms, two theatres, an X-ray room, a prep area, a dedicated dental suite, separate cat and dog kennels, and an isolation unit. We also have a purpose-built large animal facility with separate reception areas for both small and large animal clients. With our Cavehill branch currently expanding, we’re excited to be upgrading our kennels and cattery to enhance patient care even further.
Discover a diversity of caseload and experience
As a mixed veterinary surgeon with Clare Vets, you will spend just over two-thirds of your time in small animal work, over 20% in farm work, and a small amount of time dedicated to equine work. In this role, you’ll spend about two-thirds of your time in consultations, building strong relationships with our clients and their pets, while the remaining third will be dedicated to surgery.
As a busy hospital, we see a wide range of procedures, from routine neutering and dentals to more advanced soft tissue surgeries, BOAS procedures, TECA, and minor orthopaedics. Our large animal work generally includes obstetrics, RDAs, and LDAs.
While the majority of surgeries are completed on-site, we have excellent referral options for more complex orthopaedic and specialist cases. We also know how important continuity of care is, so wherever possible, you’ll have the opportunity to follow your cases through and build lasting relationships with clients.
Come and join our friendly and highly professional team
Clare Vets is a multi-site practice, with our main hospital based in Ballyclare and three additional RCVS-accredited branches in Cavehill, Carrickfergus, and Whiteabbey. Across the group, our team consists of 22 vets, 10 FTE RVNs, and a dedicated support team, including auxiliary nurses, receptionists, administrators, and management.
Among our talented team, we have certificate holders in Surgery, ECC, and Consultation, as well as vets currently working towards their Herd Health Leadership certificate. We also welcome a visiting cardiology specialist and a rehabilitation expert specializing in physiotherapy and laser therapy.
We actively encourage professional development and would love to support you in growing your own areas of interest within the practice, complementing our skilled vets and nurses. As a long-established practice, we take pride in supporting local charities and giving back to our community.
Build your career around you
We offer flexible working patterns that flex with you and your lifestyle. Whether you are looking to flex your rota hours to balance the school holidays, navigate the school runs, or just looking to strike that balance between home and work life, we can offer flexibility that actually works for you.
Full-time working is 40 hours a week; however, part-time would be considered for the right candidate. 1 in 4 weekends and one set night on call each week, alternating with first on duty one week and standby the following, with time off in lieu for weekends and on call. We are happy to discuss this in more detail at the interview.
