Job Summary
An amazing opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic Dermatology Nursing team. We are looking for ambitious, flexible, motivated individuals who can demonstrate experience in providing evidence-based practice of caring for patients with Dermatology conditions, preferably with experience in Phototherapy and patients undergoing Biologic Therapy. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the patient/carer and the MDT to ensure high-quality appropriate care.
This post serves as a development opportunity for nurses who wish to further their knowledge and skills in the dermatology specialty. The post holder will be supported in practice day-to-day by a CNS mentor and will have regular learning opportunities.
The Senior Staff Nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate expert nursing care. The post holder will support the phototherapy service. After an agreed period of induction and training with competencies, they will coordinate the day-to-day running of the clinic, ensuring safe, effective clinical care is delivered to patients within the service.
Main Duties of the Job
They will also learn how to work across agencies and contribute towards the development of communication pathways with key stakeholders, including GP's Practice Nurses and health and social care agencies.
The Senior Staff Nurse will contribute to projects such as the development of policies, quality and audit initiatives, and educational programmes for staff and students, and be willing to undertake any other relevant assignments to benefit the service.
Job Responsibilities
* Management
* Accept written patient referrals ensuring that all patient referrals achieve the accepted criteria as stated on appropriate referral forms.
* With support from the lead CNS, contribute to management and service development.
* Participate in all aspects of dermatology care under guidance and supervision of the lead CNS.
* Liaise within the multidisciplinary team on treatment plans.
* Review and investigate any change in other treatment that might affect anticoagulant control.
* Act as a mentor to pre and post-registration nurses, assisting in meeting their learning needs.
* Contribute to the development of the MDT through local service development initiatives and implementation of local and national strategies.
* Accountable to Specialist Medicine.
* Contribute to service improvement and delivery of excellent nursing care within the division of QEH medicine.
* Ensure the implementation and roll-out of evidence-based guidelines, nursing standards, and Trust Values.
* Clinical
* Work with a supported caseload of patients as part of the multidisciplinary team.
* Liaise with the Medical team ensuring newly diagnosed dermatology patients receive prompt and effective care in line with guidelines.
* Ensure that patients are educated regarding the treatment of Dermatology and its effects.
* Provide advice to ward staff regarding dermatology care.
* Assess allocated new patients, identifying their physical, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs related to their disease and proposed treatment.
* Collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team to address the needs of patients, their families, and carers.
* Formulate individualised patient treatment care programmes in conjunction with medical protocols.
* Maintain effective communication with patients, carers, and professionals.
* Contribute to the review of patient and family care as part of the multidisciplinary team.
* Develop good working relationships with staff and colleagues in all settings.
* Act as the patient's advocate, offering education on available treatment options.
* Ensure patients and their families receive appropriate information regarding the disease process and planned care.
* Provide continuity of care throughout the patient's journey.
* Participate in case conferences regarding future management or discharge arrangements.
* Maintain full, clear, and timely patient records in accordance with departmental and Trust policy.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Registered Nurse Degree or equivalent experience
* Teaching and assessment course or equivalent experience
* Care of patients with Dermatology
* Phototherapy course
* Completed competencies to deliver Biologic therapy.
Experience
* Significant post-registration experience
* Experience working within the multidisciplinary team
* Experience liaising with internal and external agencies
* Diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures and post-procedure care
* Experience caring for patients with Inflammatory Skin Disease
* Experience caring for patients requiring Biologic Therapy
* Experience caring for patients requiring phototherapy.
Knowledge and Skills
* Evidence of continued professional development
* Organisational skills, mentorship, and teaching abilities
* Evidence of competencies in caring for patients with Dermatology conditions
* Understanding of the psychological impact of patients with Dermatology conditions.
