Clinical Team Leader - Same Day Emergency Care

Main duties of the job
The overall job purpose of the clinical Team Leader is to provide clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing and multidisciplinary team. This includes acting as a clinical leader and expert practitioner liaising, guiding, and advising the multidisciplinary team in the provision of optimum patient care, coordination, flow & experience.
The clinical team leader will be responsible for the day to day running of the SDEC, including all aspect of patient care as well as the flow and coordination of the service users and staff. They will be responsible for the management of the nursing regarding all professional and performance standards.
The clinical team leader will hold the phone for a one point of contact to take referrals for patients into the SDEC in conjunction with the acute medical physician and redirecting inappropriate referrals to the correct service.
This will require the Clinical team leader to regularly review the clinical records of patients under their sphere of responsibility, to evaluate the effectiveness of the standard of care planning and delivery, and to use the results to work with the team to improve patient outcomes. Within their leadership role they will be responsible for providing feedback on the evaluation of good and poor practice to the team members ensuring effective role modelling, ongoing management and clinical supervision, and mentorship to the team.
You will also be expected to play a proactive role in quality and service improvement and working closely with the Matron, Operational Manager, and the multidisciplinary team. Lead auditing of clinical standards of care within their area. This includes ensuring a good working environment in which all patients receive a high standard of clinical care.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with live NMC pin.
* Previous experience at a senior level (band 6 or above).
* Post basic relevant study equivalent to degree level or willingness to complete.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development.
* Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. ENB 998 or mentorship qualification).
* Evidence of leadership training and ongoing leadership development.
Physical Skills
* Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs.
* Able to provide personal care for patients in a ward environment.
* Proven teaching ability and experience of being an effective mentor/preceptor or facilitator.
* Evidence of involvement with quality improvement in the clinical area.
* Demonstrate an understanding of quality and clinical governance issues.
* Can demonstrate key competencies of our vision, values, and behavioural framework.
Abilities
* Ability to motivate and lead the SDEC team and maintain good working relationships.
* Ability to supervise junior staff and maintain high standards of care.
* Ability to prioritise own workload and that of others. Ability to work on own initiative.
Communication Skills
* Evidence of good written and oral communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
