This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring individual to support trips out in the community for a 16-year-old male with autism.
This young person is looking for someone to join in with various activities; he appreciates when people have patience, a good sense of humour, and memory. The ideal candidate would have some experience of working with children with special educational needs, be reliable, and always maintain safety.
This young person has various interests such as playing computer games, drawing, watching films, and Lego. He is also learning to speak and write several different languages.
He needs close supervision when out in the community due to him having very little awareness of danger or road safety. He is very easily influenced, and it is important he has an adult with him to encourage good choices when out in the community.
The role is based on a package of 6 hours per week to be used on the days the young person is not attending college; these hours are flexible to suit the needs of both the family and the worker.
As we are based in Market Weighton, it would be beneficial for the candidate to have a valid full UK driving licence and access to a car to be able to access a variety of social and leisure activities.
Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker; the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.
