Description
The Prototype Technician (Workshop) is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle build activities are refined and matured from an engineering and manufacturing perspective, through testing, data acquisition and simulation to allow a smooth transition into a successful project delivery and ultimately production. This will involve the assembly and testing of prototype vehicles and component tests, along with identification and reporting mechanical build and test faults and working with engineers to resolve problems on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
* Working with other members of the prototype workshop team and liaising with other areas of the business (in particular the Design and Engineering departments plus the Vehicle Development team).
* Fabrication, machining & welding of components and assembly of composite parts, if applicable to job role.
* Checking, modifying and inspecting of in-house made parts or parts received via a third party supplier.
* Vehicle tear down, part labelling and recording duties.
* Vehicle and sub-system assembly build.
* Regular reporting of issues, faults or concerns in relation to all work activities using a structured approach and recognised procedures.
* Testing of components, vehicle systems and vehicles.
* Contributing to and supporting events and activities that the company may become involved in.
* Develop the role and be a team player, to provide support to the Company and/or Group Company's as the Group expands and grows.
* Ensure that technical knowledge and expertise is kept up to date.
* To liaise with the Design and Engineering departments ensuring that the team is supported on testing and development.
* Assist in conducting, external component tests, and whole vehicle static, dynamic and passive safety tests.
* To attend internal meetings as required, and in general to contribute to and support Gordon Murray Automotive events, activities and publications.
* To undertake other necessary, reasonable duties and appropriate tasks as requested by a company Director or Head of Prototype Workshop.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Automotive Engineering, Motorsport or Aerospace background.
* Experience of working with high spec super cars.
* Ability to understand technical drawings and take direction from engineers.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Excellent timekeeping with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
* The ability to consistently work to the highest standards, with minimal supervision and a strong attention to detail.
* Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
* Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
* Must be a team player.
