Job Summary
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Diabetes Specialty Psychologist to join our dynamic Children and Young People's Diabetes (CYPD) multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside consultant paediatricians, clinical nurse specialists, paediatric dieticians, and administrative staff to support children and their families living with diabetes.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Doctoral level training in clinical psychology.
2. Experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings.
3. Knowledge of the emotional impact of long-term illnesses on children and families.
4. Skills in providing consultation and training to other professionals.
5. Post-qualification experience working with children with long-term conditions.
6. Knowledge of paediatric medicine (specific diabetes knowledge not essential).
7. Experience in teaching, training, and supervision of trainee clinical psychologists.
Main Duties of the Job:
The postholder will work with a lively, innovative and highly motivated Children and Young People's Diabetes (CYPD) multidisciplinary team comprising consultant paediatricians, clinical nurse specialists, paediatric dieticians and administration staff. They will provide specialist clinical psychology assessments and short-term interventions services to children and their families living with diabetes within West Hertfordshire working autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the Trust's policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Provide specialist clinical psychology assessments and short-term interventions.
2. Lead the psychological approach to care within the MDT for children with diabetes.
3. Undertake risk assessments and management, offering advice on psychological aspects.
4. Communicate effectively with health and social care staff.
5. Receive managerial supervision from the Professional Lead for Psychology.
6. Establish communication networks within the East of England CYPD Diabetes regional network psychology group.
7. Communicate assessment, formulation, and treatment plans to CAMHS.
8. Maintain professional standards through CPD and training programs.
9. Participate in MDT meetings, service evaluation, and policy development.
10. Conduct clinical audits, service development, and research.
11. Supervise Trainee Clinical Psychologists and utilize evidence-based literature to support practice.
Person Specification:
Education and Qualifications:
1. Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by HCPC, including evidence of continuous professional development.
2. Post-qualification training in one or more specialised areas of practice.
Knowledge:
1. Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatients, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
2. Post-qualification experience in an area relevant to the client group.
3. Experience of using cognitive behavioural therapy / Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and systemic therapy with children and adolescents, including group work.
4. Knowledge and understanding of the emotional effects and implications of long-term illnesses on children, adolescents and their families.
5. Knowledge and understanding of Diabetes in childhood.
Experience:
1. Experience of multi-disciplinary team working/joint work and inter-agency collaboration.
2. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole course of presenting problems.
3. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment.
