Looking for a worthwhile job with the hours that work for you?
Join us as a Support Worker; we provide support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so we can probably offer the hours that suit you.
We normally plan the rotas one month in advance, but additional opportunities also come up due to unexpected staff absences.
So what would you be doing?
You will provide invaluable support to four people with learning disabilities who live in their own home in Flitwick. Who better to tell you than David*, Susan*, Stephen, and Paul*? We asked them what they want from their new support worker. Here's what they had to say.
Things that are important to us about our Support Workers:
* Talk to me, keep me company, listen to me.
* Be kind and friendly.
* Have fun, laugh, and joke with me.
* Let me have my own space when I want it.
Support me to:
* Make a good cup of coffee.
* Phone my family; keeping in contact is really important to me.
* Go to the pub to see my friends and cheer me on when I sing karaoke.
* Keep my money and my things safe.
Things you need to know about us:
* I like the house to be very clean and tidy; I enjoy doing my bit but need support.
* I'm a smoker and need some support in managing my smoking and buying my cigarettes on a Friday.
* I like to have things to look forward to. Help me find out what's on and plan trips.
* Routine is very important to me. I need support to understand when things change and why they are changing.
* Be patient and give me time to understand and do things.
* We are all very unique individuals with strong personalities, likes, and dislikes.
* Talk to us about the things we like and our special interests - James Bond, music, trucks, & filming.
* Things we quite like when we do choose to go out are shopping, parties, pubs, karaoke, cinema, lunch out, visiting family, theatre, and going on holidays.
* We are able to make a lot of choices for ourselves; support us to do this.
We are hoping new staff might have new ideas on things we might like to do.
As you've probably worked out, they are all full of life and fun to be with; could you support them to lead lives that make sense to them?
* Names changed for privacy.
