Clinical Nurse Specialist in MS (Multiple Sclerosis)
Interview date: Friday 24th Jan 2025, AM between 9-12.
Provision of specialist, high quality, expert Multiple Sclerosis care. Developing appropriate guidelines and clinical pathways for patients under the care of the Multiple Sclerosis service.
Liaison with the multidisciplinary team(s) and other health agencies.
Provide care across the whole disease trajectory including assessment of newly diagnosed and those with an established diagnosis including treatments, onward referral/discharge and end of life care. Supporting ward staff to safely discharge patients back to their homes.
Carry out telephone assessments, face-to-face assessments of patients with MS and formulate plans of care and support.
Provide specialist information to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals on the management of Multiple Sclerosis.
On completion of training, to safely carry out Non-Medical Prescribing Practice to support the Consultants in managing patients with MS.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate expert nursing care and provide support to people living with Multiple Sclerosis and their carers, having continuous responsibility for co-ordination and organisation of individual treatment programmes throughout the illness trajectory.
2. Develop and manage a caseload of patients with complex needs. Competent to undertake advanced nursing assessments of the patient's needs.
3. Act as an Independent Nurse Prescriber, able to distribute repeat DMT prescriptions for MS Patients with support from the MS Consultant team (not initiating new treatments) and monitoring the safety of the treatment regimes.
4. Competent with the checking and administration of IV Infusions to MS patients if required.
5. Act as an expert source of knowledge and information for people with Multiple Sclerosis.
6. The post holder liaises effectively with all members of the Multidisciplinary team within the acute hospital and primary care settings and supports developmental roles that enhance team capacity and resilience.
7. Provide specialist nursing advice, psychological support and act as a consultancy role to people living with multiple sclerosis, their carers and other health and social care professionals.
8. The post holder will work autonomously and as part of a team.
9. Develop the service according to need, undertake audit and research projects and develop policies and procedures.

Person Specification
Qualification
* NMC Registration Adult Nursing
* Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training, demonstrable experience or short courses.
* Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification or working towards.
Experience & Knowledge
* Three to five years post-registration demonstrable experience.
* Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Research interests.
