GSK are looking for a talented Engineer with a strong pharmaceutical background to work within the respiratory department supporting Frontend (Micronising, Blending and Filling) to provide Engineering technical support of production equipment manufacturing multi-dose powder inhalers.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver professional engineering expertise for unit operations to ensure demonstrated design, installation and performance is maintained and continuously improved during the operational life cycle of the equipment. This extends to ensuring that business improvement upgrades, modifications and adaptations are implemented to meet quality, safety and performance targets. The role operates under the direction of an Engineering Manager with support from technical authorities across multiple equipment Platforms.
The Ware Campus is seeing a significant amount of capital investment, seeing multiple large capital asset refreshment programmes in place across the campus. The successful candidate will influence and provide technical guidance facilitating this expansion as well as supporting the current production equipment.
Key Responsibilities (include..,):
1. Developing/delivering improvements across Frontend platforms and associated Infrastructure on site (supporting documentation and validation reviews), working with equipment manufacturers where necessary.
2. Frequent interaction with Quality and Safety Practitioners and Regulatory bodies (via regulatory GMP audits and product market-specific audits). This may include preparing and presenting at Technical Quality Audits.
3. Delivering (and promoting) a culture of improving the performance of Safety, Quality, Cost and Customer Service, ensuring root causing and problem solving are carried out and corrective/ preventative actions are implemented.
4. Supporting and driving conformance to asset maintenance strategy and integrating Continuous Improvement techniques (looking to further integrate digital and data processes to optimize operational effectiveness of the plant).
5. Improvement of procedures relevant to the Frontend Engineering Department.
About You:
6. Knowledge of and experience of working within highly regulated (GMP) environments
7. A good standard of numeracy and literacy is essential. You will be a willing learner and a good communicator who takes personal accountability, ownership and action. Good verbal, written and computer communication skills are required
8. Process safety awareness including risk management
9. Capable of managing small packages of Engineering work on complex manufacturing equipment
10. Understanding of basic OE and leadership principles
About Ware Manufacturing Site:
Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form. The site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company’s pipeline of new medicines in these dose forms.
Platform Overview:
Micronising
Micronising is the process of reducing the particle size of a powder by using compressed gas as the energy source. The powder is entrained in the gas and the resulting particle- particle collisions (as well as some particle - wall collisions) break up the powder to the required particle size specification.
Blending
Blending is the manufacturing process of combining active pharmaceutical ingredients with excipients such as lactose and magnesium stearate.
Filling
The filling machines are used to continuously produce filled strips via cold forming, filling and heat-sealing foil blister packs with doses of blends containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).

Basic Qualifications:
11. Minimum of a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in an Engineering discipline (or relevant experience and working towards)
12. Relevant experience of working within manufacturing engineering teams
