111 Mental Health Triage Service Rapid Response Vehicle Practitioner
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Are you a Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker looking for a new challenge? As a trust, we care about our staff and believe in supporting their career development within HIOW NHS Foundation Trust. The 111 Mental Health Triage Service, launched in 2018, covers the Hampshire area including Surrey & Borders and the Isle of Wight. The service has been recognized nationally for making a positive difference and improving outcomes for patients and is being replicated across the country. Employed by HIOW NHS Foundation Trust, we work closely with the South-Central Ambulance Trust.
Main duties of the job
The service is accessed when patients ring 111. They will first be triaged by a call handler to determine their needs. If the person has mental health needs, they will be placed into the mental health queue, whereby a mental health practitioner from our team will check their history and call the patient back to provide support. The service supports all ages and can provide a wide range of assistance, including listening, reassurance, brief psychological interventions, and referrals to primary and secondary services. The Mental Health Rapid Response Vehicle covers the Hampshire area, including Southampton and Portsmouth. HIOW Foundation Trust provides the nurse, and South-Central Ambulance Service provides the paramedic. The role also involves working closely with other healthcare professionals and Hampshire Police. The MHRRV is dispatched like an ambulance; however, the Mental Health Practitioner will have the patient's details and access their history and crisis plans to deliver consistent and guided support. Working alongside a paramedic, the patient will be assessed to provide the most suitable intervention. The service operates across a 24-hour period, which involves working a rotational shift pattern and can offer flexible working.
