Our esteemed port services customer is seeking a Team Leader to head up their team of 5 operators and 1 chargehand at their busy Forest Products Dept, based at the port of Sheerness. It is the largest terminal of its kind in the UK, handling 1.3 million tonnes of timber and forest products a year. The Port of Sheerness is a key commercial port for South East England.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a port environment (storage/warehousing/distribution) and will have preferably worked with paper/forest products. However, a suitably experienced person with the right skills and experience in warehousing/distribution could also be successful in the role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for their own Health and Safety and that of those working around them. They will lead the team in unloading, receipt, storage, picking, loading, and despatching of customer goods whilst maintaining a high level of stock integrity and customer service.
Expectations
1. Responsible for day-to-day operational safety, quality, and cost.
2. Ensure goods receipt, storage, pick, and despatch functions operate efficiently while maintaining a high level of stock integrity.
3. Management of the team performance through employee engagement.
Main Responsibilities
1. Ensure full compliance with Safety 365 at London Medway.
2. Manage your team and contract staff to meet the required targets and ensure the operation remains profitable by balancing labour costs against revenue.
3. Support the team on processes to ensure timely completion of all tasks and duties.
4. Liaise with Planning and Commodity leaders daily to understand the operational priorities.
5. Develop a culture of continuous improvement in all staff.
6. Ensure we provide an industry-leading service to our customers (24/7 - 365 days per year).
7. Monitor daily performances of all staff to meet customer deadlines.
8. Demonstrate the Leadership behaviours and standards expected in line with our Core values.
9. Lead change by promoting new approaches and effective communication.
10. Manage team performance through appraisals and feedback.
