Role Purpose
The Operations Engineer aspires to provide exemplary support and optimisation for core systems, hardware and services managing day-to-day functional changes and improvements, enshrining effective maintenance, documentation and teamwork as a cornerstone of service excellence.
Ensuring their efforts and thoughts are focused on maintaining operational systems at their peak performance, minimising downtime and operational efficiency, monitoring and reporting on their own and the systems performance. Taking delight in demonstrating competency and effective stewardship of company systems.
They will contribute to the effective and detailed documentation of existing systems, future technical design, implementation methods, and support procedures for core systems, software/hardware platforms and cloud services within domain specialism.
Acts as the primary resolver group for issue and problem escalation from projects, Desktop Support and Service Desk. Leading the discussion and demonstrating knowledge domain competency in the effective management and resolution of technical and procedural issues.
Essential Duties
1. Analysing existing systems and business models recommending solutions and improvements to systems and services, ensuring optimal operations and best practices.
2. Author technical documents detailing existing services and proposed new services in detail, considering performance, current or proposed specification, and solution designs.
3. Investigate, identify, diagnose, and resolve system related faults owning to resolution or escalating 3rd parties to maintain service levels.
4. Leading in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems owning throughout, using escalation when necessary to meet service obligation and service aspirations.
5. Comply with organisational procedures and policies, ensuring systems security by design and action.
6. Meeting SLA in delivering effective request fulfilment, support and design fulfilment.
7. Maintaining and updating, all core systems, applications, hardware, and platforms under management.
8. Create and maintain suitable reports and audits to demonstrate effective management and support of systems and services.
9. Where required contribute to the development and deployment of operational projects, owning and being accountable for assigned tasks and deliverables.

Core competencies
1. Carries out and contributes to the agreed operational procedures, including configuration, implementation, installation, and maintenance.
2. Uses Infrastructure management tools to collect and report on load and performance statistics, and to automate provisioning, testing and development of new or changed infrastructure.
3. Uses standard procedures and tools to carry out defined systems backups and DR restorations, restoring data and operating systems where necessary.
4. Identifies operational problems and actively contributes to their resolution.
5. Establishes configuration baselines following defined procedures, and applies tools, techniques and processes to track, log and correct information related to configuration items and assets.
6. Develops, documents and implements changes based on requests for change, ensuring compliance with change control procedures.
7. Investigates problems in systems, processes and services, assisting with the implementation of agreed remedial and preventative measures.
8. Uses the tool and techniques for specific areas of release and deployment, recording and logging results whilst documenting technical activities undertaken.
9. May be required to carry out early life support such as providing support and advise to users.
10. Defines and accepts software modules needed for an integration build and produces a definition for generation of software.
11. Produces software builds from source code for loading onto target hardware.
12. Configuring and implementing the hardware and software environments as required.
