An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Business Intelligence (BI) team based in National Headquarters.

The BI team is responsible for all routine and ad-hoc performance reporting. This includes production of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports covering all aspects of performance such as operational, clinical, PTS and sickness absence. These routine reports are produced for SAS Executive, Board, Senior Managers and the Scottish Government. Provision of this analysis applies to the whole system, from 999 calls to outcomes linked with other areas of healthcare.
We are looking for an experienced Data Warehouse Developer to join the team who will be responsible for the ongoing development and support of the existing Data Warehouse, which includes the design, build and maintenance of SQL Server databases, Business Objects Data Services (BODS) ETL processes and the creation and update of Business Objects reporting universes.
This is a highly specialist and technical role and the post holder will be required to undertake complex and detailed technical design for bringing each source system into the Data Warehouse and must be proficient in data manipulation using SQL queries, procedures and functions, along with design and development in a Data Warehouse environment. The Data Warehouse uses a Business Objects reporting solution therefore experience of Business Object Universe Designer, Report Building, Administration, Migration and Security is essential.
The post holder will be expected to fully engage with users in the development of the Data Warehouse and to establish user requirements through analysis of business processes ensuring relevant source system data is fully maximised for reporting and analysis.
The successful applicant will have previous experience of working with Star-schema Data Warehouse solutions and a good understanding of Data Warehouse functionality such as Slowly-Changing-Dimensions.
This is a varied role and the post holder will need to be flexible and able to cope with periods of pressure and competing demands. Consistent attention to detail and good organisational skills are essential. A willingness to support colleagues in the team and be flexible to meet ever changing demands from within the Service and externally is essential.
Experience of the following is essential:
1. Creation and updating database objects (tables, views, procedures, functions, triggers, user accounts etc.)
2. Procedural coding in SQL Server or other database technology.
3. Development and support of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) or Data Migration technology.
4. Maintenance and enhancement of an existing code base.
Experience or knowledge of using the following software would be desirable:
1. Business Objects Data Services (BODS)
2. Business Objects XI (BOXI) including Web Intelligence
3. R
4. PHP
5. HTML
6. Data Visualisation tools such as Power BI
Although this post is based within National Headquarters, the location is flexible and will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate. This could include home working, office working, or a hybrid of the two.
