About you
You will have experience of working in a health and safety advisory role in a varied and complex multi-disciplinary organisational environment with the following skills knowledge and experience:
1. current and up to date knowledge with health and safety and fire safety Acts, regulations and guidance.
2. have an in-depth understanding of facilities related health and safety issues including fire safety and building maintenance risks, project safety and the management of contractors.
3. have experience of report writing and policy preparation and be an effective presenter and contributor in committee environments.
4. capable of developing and delivering training across a broad range of health and safety and fire safety topics.
5. expertise and experience in the design, implementation and delivery of safety management systems and process solutions.
6. capable of undertaking accident and incident investigations and preparing investigation reports for senior management attention.
7. experienced in leading safety inspections and on designing and delivering audits including thematic and compliance audits across a broad range of health, safety and fire safety topics.
Qualifications
Essential:
8. NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
9. Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) to at least Technical Standard or equivalent
10. Working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
Desirable:
11. Working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
12. Qualifications in teaching adults e.g. ‘Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ (PTLLS)
Department
The Health and Safety Department is a small team within the university’s Governance, Risk and Compliance department. It sets the health and safety direction for the institution, supports line managers in meeting their statutory obligations in delivering a safe environment that enhances the staff and student experience and creates an environment that builds internal and external communities.
The Governance, Compliance and Risk Department includes the following responsibilities:
Corporate Governance, Risk Management, Data Protection and Health and Safety.
