Royal Derby Hospital Trauma and Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy team are a large team with a 19 registered and support staff. The team take great pride in delivering high standards of Occupational Therapy patient centred care supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of those following Orthopaedic Surgical intervention.
We have a vacancy at band 5 level for an individual who has experienced working as an Occupational Therapist within Orthopaedics and is looking for a fantastic opportunity to further their knowledge and develop their clinical reasoning and clinical practice.
The team have significant experience to support those wishing to develop a career path within the orthopaedic speciality. The successful applicant will work closely with MDT colleagues and cover a very mixed caseload across a 150 bed base. This includes both trauma and elective patients across 6 wards including a private patient unit.
The team support the busy orthopaedic OP clinic, perform pre-op assessments and lead education classes. Innovation in service delivery and continuous improvement is encouraged.
Leadership is provided by an 8a Operational Lead, a band 7 clinical lead plus numerous Clinical Specialist band 6 Occupational Therapists all engaged in your development.

Main duties of the job
Excellent problem-solving skills are a must, to ensure holistic and patient centred quality care.
Experience in facilitating discharges within the clinical speciality of Orthopaedic Inpatients is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively as part of multi-disciplinary and therapy team. This will involve working closely with other OTs and Physiotherapists to ensure optimum service delivery and delay avoidance.
* Provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards.
* Joint working with Physiotherapy.
* Formulate individual treatment plans with patients with diverse presentations and complex conditions.
* Responsible for own caseload demonstrating prioritisation and delegation skills alongside excellent team working.
* Initiation of and involvement in service improvement projects, clinical and team audit.
* Effective and timely discharge planning working within an MDT.
* Supervise and support assistants.
* Supervise and educate students.
* Maintain and develop strong communication links with community services.
* Contribution to our 7-day service including an element of weekend working.
