Hiring for a Youth Support Worker in Derry to deliver work shops to young people. Some of these may be children in Rural areas, creating fun and engaging workshops and activities. A qualification in this field would be advantous but will also consider applicants that have served 4 years in a similar role. Salary: £28,000 Annual Leave: 5 working weeks, exclusive of bank and customary holidays. Statutory Sick Scheme & Workplace pension. Travel expenses current rate of 40p per mile will be payable for mileage undertaken in connection with work. Purpose & Objectives: To support children ages 0-8. To organise, plan and facilitate groups, activities, family days and events for the children and their families. To liaise with other professionals involved with the child including social services, schools, education officers, SENCO workers and other similar agencies. To complete Life Story programmes and confidence programmes with children on a one-to-one basis. To record and evaluate sessions based on funder’s guidelines. To develop and deliver drop-in sessions, diversionary programmes and activities, training and one to one support to children and young people. To act in a professional, proactive capacity that will contribute to the strategic aims and enhance the wellbeing of carers and the children they care for. This post requires that a check must be carried out under the requirements of ACCESS NI enhanced disclosure. This will involve a full criminal records check which will show spent and unspent convictions, cautions, cases pending or any other relevant information. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Provide a welcoming, safe, supportive and fun environment for children and young people engaged in services. -Organise and deliver drop-in sessions, diversionary programmes and activities, training, one to one support other age appropriate activities to young people coming through services for support. -Organise and deliver programmes and activities to children and young people engaged in our Good Relations Programmes, including liaising with referral agents and meeting the support needs of youngsters with additional needs. -Establish a training programme for young people, to include group discussion and activities relevant to promoting good relations and peace building at a local level. -Work with children and young people on an individual and group basis as appropriate, and ensure quality standards are met in the delivery of all programmes and services. -Provide advice and assistance to children and young people, ensuring confidentiality at all times. -Assist in the establishment of a Steering Group to engage hard to reach young people who would benefit from getting involved in structured programmes and activities. -Ensure areas are well equipped with materials, educational materials and equipment according to the needs of children and young people of all ages. -Set up and maintain an inventory of all equipment and resources. -Ensure the general upkeep and health and safety of areas, both indoor and outdoor. -Undertake risk assessments for all activities to ensure all health and safety requirements are met. -Work alongside other staff members to agree a package of support for children and young people, ensuring sensitivity to the backgrounds and cultural needs of youngsters and address issues such as barriers to accessing services/opportunities. -Work alongside other individuals and organisations to establish a referral process for young people, including young people living across the border in Co. Donegal. -Develop promotional materials and methods of evaluation alongside other staff members. -Coordinate and support volunteers and sessional staff to ensure the correct worker/child ratio is adhered to. -Develop good relationships with other organisations that might be able to provide information and support to children and young people engaged in services. -Undertake administrative tasks and keep records of service activity as required. -Give presentations to groups and speak at events as required. -Assist in the development of briefings, leaflets, workshops and awareness raising programmes and activities. -Respond to written and phone enquiries from parents/carers, and other individuals/stakeholders and organisations. -Monitor and report on outcomes, indicators and activity levels on a regular basis to our Business Development Manager, funders and other key stakeholders. -Establish and maintain a database for monitoring information in relation to young people, their needs and the type and level of support provided. -Ensure confidentiality and professional boundaries are observed when working with children, carers, staff and external agencies and work within our clients Code of Conduct and Professional Boundaries Policy. -Ensure any safeguarding issues that may arise are dealt with as a priority, in accordance with Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies. -Attend regular staff meetings. -Assist with local fundraising initiatives when required. -Contribute to the strategic direction. -Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the achievement of the organisation’s goals and targets. Essential Criteria • A relevant (recognised qualification in childcare, health and social care, community development or related field) (Minimum NVQ level III or higher). Or else 4 years served in a similar role. • Five GCSEs (minimum) at Grade C or above (or equivalent) including English Language and Maths. • At least 3 years’ paid experience (out of the last 5) working with and delivering programmes to vulnerable/disadvantaged children/young people. • Experience working on cross organisational projects. • Excellent presentation skills. • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver information in an engaging manner to suit the needs of children and young people. • Excellent written skills, including the ability to produce quality reports. • Excellent administration skills including ability to maintain and update records and files. • Competent in the use of IT software such as word processing, databases, publisher, spreadsheets, internet and e-mail. • Willing to deliver and participate in presentations, workshops and briefing sessions. • Effective organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload. • Able to build good working relationships. • Able to work both independently and as part of a team. • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and use own initiative to complete duties and tasks and manage work within a team. • Prepared to learn new skills. • Willingness to take managerial direction. • Ability to retain confidence and discretion. • A demonstrable commitment to equality of opportunity. • A current driving licence with access to a car.
