Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Engineer to become an integral part of our expanding engineering team. The ideal candidate will leverage their extensive software engineering expertise to develop innovative features, resolve complex issues, and manage technical debt. Additionally, they will apply a strategic perspective to enhance team processes and tooling, ultimately driving the delivery of exceptional, high-quality software solutions to our valued customers.
What youll be doing:
* Collaborating within the team to develop clean, maintainable features and resolve end-to-end issues, leveraging various approaches to ensure optimal outcomes for our customers. Ensuring solutions are fit for purpose, deliver significant business value, adhere to quality standards, and align with standard engineering practices.
* Contributing to the strategic management of technical debt within the team, ensuring Legal & Generals systems remain secure, resilient, and reliable.
* Defining and reviewing test approaches and strategies within your team to ensure the highest quality customer experience, with a strong emphasis on security, usability, and accessibility.
* Participating in and conducting code reviews, focusing on both functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, resiliency, maintainability, and security, to consistently deliver high-quality software for our customers.
* Actively promoting continuous improvement and adaptation to enhance team effectiveness and satisfaction, supporting changes that improve processes and culture, ensuring the team remains happy, productive, and efficient.
* Fostering a culture of mutual respect, collaboration, and engagement within the team, providing coaching, mentoring, and support to less experienced engineers to help them develop and grow their skills.
* Engaging in continuous research on relevant application technologies, identifying and implementing opportunities to integrate them into our applications. Share your findings and insights in developer forums.
* Ensuring that all customers and stakeholders are treated fairly, in line with Legal & Generals principles on Customer Experience and the Treating Customers Fairly policy.
Qualifications
Who were looking for:
* Proficient in Key Mainframe Skills: Expertise in COBOL or PL/I, JCL, Rexx, DB2, CICS, VSAM, SORT utilities, File-AID, SPUFI, ISPF, and SCM tools such as Endevor.
* Experience with Third-Party Products: Skilled in using HPS, Easytrieve, and Selcopy.
* DB2 Database Management: Proficient in managing and optimizing DB2 databases, including writing SQL queries and ensuring data integrity.
* JCL (Job Control Language): Essential skills for managing job streams, scheduling tasks, and handling data processing.
* CICS (Customer Information Control System): Expertise in building and managing high-volume transaction applications.
* Debugging and Troubleshooting: Proven ability to identify and resolve issues in mainframe applications.
