To undertake a range of care duties for patients and provide support functions within the Outpatient Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
To record patient information and report patient condition to a Registered Nurse/Midwife.
To undertake a full range of manual, housekeeping and clerical duties as required.
To maintain a personal and professional development.
Participate in the effective utilisation of resources available to the service.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
1. Assist the Registered Nurse/Midwife in delivering a high standard of holistic patient care, ensuring that the patients dignity and equality is maintained at all times in line with organisational requirements.
2. Act as a chaperone for patients prior to, during and following clinical procedures or examinations.
3. Following appropriate training measure patient’s weight/height and perform routine urine testing and recording of blood pressure/pulse/temperature reporting results to Registered Nurse/Midwife in charge.
4. Check accuracy of patient demographic details on attendance at clinic. Where changes are identified, inform the Nurse in Charge and Clinic clerk in order that records can be updated.
5. Taking accurate telephone messages. Laboratory results should always be read back to the technician who will confirm that it is correct.Being aware of the danger of divulging information to a caller and knowing when to refer the call to a senior member of staff.
6. Prepare general clinic area for receiving patients by ensuring area is generally clean and tidy – assist in maintaining the standards in the clinical area and report any untidiness/clutter to the appropriate person.
7. Contribute and assist in moving and handling of individuals ensuring that organisational guidelines and policies are met.
8. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
9. Communicate basic information to patients and their carers maintaining confidentiality, dignity and respect.
