local people? Join us at Citizens Advice Torridge, North, Mid and West Devon as our Finance Officer. The Finance Officer is
responsible for supporting the Finance and Projects Manager in the effective delivery of the organisation’s services. This role
involves ensuring financial processes run smoothly to maintain high-quality standards and efficient service delivery. The role
ideally will be primarily based in our Bideford or Barnstaple offices, but could also work from our other offices in Tiverton,
Okehampton or Tavistock.
Main purpose of the job
* Support the Finance and Projects Manager (FPM) with day to day finance operations and reporting
* Manage transactions in and maintain the finance system, Sage 50 Accounts Professional
* Deputise for FPM when unavailable including attending meetings
* Support the FPM and the charity to make best use of its resources, monitoring cash and other asset
Finance support
* Work with the FPM on a variety of activities to ensure all finance processes and controls are in place and observed
* Help maintain and develop appropriate systems for efficient working
* Work across all of the service and lead areas to support with financial information as needed
* Maintain the accounting records and reconciliations on a timely basis to enable reporting within specified timescales
* Liaise with debtors and creditors to ensure business operations can run smoothly including credit control and processing
purchase invoices
* Prepare draft budgets, management accounts and other information for management decision-making and controls including
commentary and explanations
* Prepare payroll and staff/volunteer expenses for review and payment
* Prepare and deliver the schedules as needed for the year end accounts and audit
* Support with Treasury management and cashflow forecasting as well as petty cash management
* Assist in ensuring compliance with financial regulations and laws including tax
* Always adhere to the Data Protection Act 2018 and be aware of data retention schedules.
* Maintain confidentiality of information and data acquired.
Fundraising support
* Support with preparing budgets for funding bids
* Working with the Operations Support Officer to provide data for funding bids
Specialist Service financial support
* Assist in the financial oversight of the service, meeting performance and other delivery targets and reporting as necessary
* Working with the Operations Support Officer to provide insights and other reporting using all the data available
Other duties
* Travel to any of the main offices or outreaches to support the team or attend meetings
* Maintain own CPD requirements in accordance with any qualification held
* Liaise with the other Local Citizens Advice offices as necessary for financial and reporting purposes
* Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own health and safety and that of colleagues.
* Carry out any other tasks within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of service.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
* Proven experience in a finance officer or other support role
* Experience of working with computerised finance systems over several years.
* Expert user of Microsoft 365, in particular MS Excel.
* An excellent eye for detail and logical thinker.
* Flexible and able to adapt to different ways of working and changes in the workplace and systems
* Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines and manage own workload in a sometimes challenging environment.
* Demonstrable personal integrity and professionalism
Desirable:
* Finance qualification, or working towards one
* User of the Power BI suite
* Experience of working in the charity/third sector including reporting under the SORP
* Full driving license and access to a vehicle.
* Experience with Sage 50 Accounts Professional
