Description Are you interested in working within Parole and learning about one of the main parts of the Scottish justice system? The Parole Board for Scotland (PBS) is an independent Non-Departmental Public Body with the authority to direct Scottish Ministers on the release or recall of various categories of prisoners and restricted patients. PBS also oversees the recall of offenders, including Short Term Sex Offenders, for breaches of licence conditions. Comprised of a Chairman and public appointees, the Board is supported by Parole Scotland, which provides central administrative support for managing offenders both in custody and in the community. As a Casework Officer, you will play a key part in Parole Scotland’s casework team who provide the administrative support to Parole Board Members to ensure that they have all relevant information required to support parole hearings. This is an interesting, fast paced and high-profile area of work. Please be aware that the position will require you to review documents which may contain distressing, disturbing and sensitive details of crime. Responsibilities Responsibilities Liaise and build networks with internal and external stakeholders including Parole Board members, Police Scotland, Scottish Prison Service (SPS), Solicitors, Prisoners, Prisoners’ families, Victims, Community Based Social Workers (CBSW), Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), Clinical teams, Senior colleagues and Risk Management Authority to be able to respond appropriately to various requests both verbally and written. Upload dossiers from the Prisoner Parole Dossier Service (PPDS), review and update content of prisoners’ dossiers with late and/or additional information from prisons and social work to deliver and meet key targets and critical dates with minimum supervision. Refer these key documents to the Parole Board members timeously to consider when the case is be considered for Parole. Prepare, check, and issue Tribunal and Oral hearing notifications, as well as Witness Citations, to all relevant parties (including members, prisoners, solicitors, social work, and prisons) from the internal Casework Management System, ensuring compliance with agreed timeframes. Issue Decision minutes on prisoners (Determinate, Extended, Life, Order for Lifelong Restriction (OLR), Short term Sex Offenders, Cross-border transfer prisoners and Restricted patients) risk to relevant stakeholders. Qualifications Success Profile Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills, experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on.
