If so, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Speech and Language therapist to join our multidisciplinary team and support the development of the Speech and Language Therapy clinical pathways and service offer for the specialist mental health inpatient service. This is a newly created post within a brand new team and will be supported by a highly specialist speech and language therapist working across the inpatient locality services within the care group. This is a post available at either Bowmere Hospital at Chester/Springview Hospital on the Wirral.
The roles provides an opportunity to be actively involved in service development projects to ensure the provision of a high quality service.
This post would also suit an experienced Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist looking to take on a Band 5 to 6 progressive role to build on post-graduate experiences to pursue a role working in the fields of Autism and Mental Health. Further CPD opportunities would be available, such as Dysphagia Training.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will be expected to support the development of the SLT service within inpatient specialist mental health services. The post holders will carry a caseload, completing assessments and interventions, including assessment and management of communication needs, dysphagia/eating and drinking difficulties and advising on inclusive communication strategies for people with a range of mental health needs and co-occurring conditions who are supported within specialist mental health inpatient services. The post holders will also offer advice, training and consultation to other clinicians and support staff. The post holders will take a key role improving the identification and support of people on the autistic spectrum and will have experience and additional training in this area. The successful applicants will work within a multi-disciplinary team comprising of a range of mental health professionals. There will be regular professional supervision. The posts will involve liaison, joint-working and providing advice to other clinical, social and care agencies and other external agencies when appropriate.

Essential
* Degree in SLT
* HCPC registration
* Evidence of attendance at relevant short courses
Desirable
* DISCO or ADOS/ADI-R trained
* Post basic dysphagia qualification
* Leadership qualification
Knowledge & Expertise
Essential
* Knowledge and understanding of person centred care
* Up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and quality framework associated with the clinical speciality (e.g. MHA, Clinical & Social Governance).
* Good working knowledge and understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and SLT role within it
* Understanding and application of safeguarding procedures, and input into complex intervention plans
* Ability to produce reports and guidelines
* Interest in undertaking CPD

* Knowledge of medical and mental health conditions, diagnosis, treatment and care
Experience

* Experience of working with people with mental health issues/learning disabilities/autism services
* Experience of providing supervision to others
