Location: Andover and Winchester with agile working Working Hours: Full time (part time considered 30hrs per week) Salary: £27,410 - £32,729 per annum – Career Grade 5/6 Test Valley Borough Council’s IT service provides essential Geographic Information Systems (GIS) services on behalf of our staff, residents and local communities across Test Valley and Winchester. We have an opportunity within our GIS team for someone to help us deliver a successful GIS service to Winchester City Council and Test Valley Borough Council. The team Our GIS team sits within our IT service which is made up of professional, friendly, and supportive colleagues, from apprentices, a couple of new starters to some who have been here for years As well as working within the IT service, you’ll interact a lot with colleagues across both authorities, including senior staff and councillors. What You’ll Be Doing Your work will initially involve providing technical support and development for the council’s current GIS system (ESRI). This support will include the creation of user templates, the in-house training of users, provision of user support and creation of training documentation for use across both councils. We are in the process of looking at new GI systems, so this is an exciting time to join the team where we will be implementing, testing and configuring the system, then training our diverse user base. Other examples of our recent tasks include producing parish profile maps for Winchester parishes, helping to produce walking routes in Test Valley and identifying solar power planning applications received by Winchester’s Planning team. You’ll also be providing support to colleagues who work on the systems we use currently (ESRI ArcGIS) and our case management system (IDOX Uniform) assisting with any incidents or requests logged via our service desk. Salary And Experience Not GIS qualified? No problem You’ll start with us at grade 5 and develop your technical skills with our brilliant team who will teach you everything you need to learn GIS and develop your skills further. At grade 6, you will have experience of working in a GIS Support environment and a good understanding of GIS based systems (for example ESRI and IDOX). To thrive in the role, you need to have good organisational skills, a good attention to detail and be able to communicate effectively. You should also be interested in learning and developing your GIS knowledge and experience – we’re constantly developing our GIS skills here Working flexibly This post can be worked full time for 37 hours a week or part-time between 30-37 hours per week and is based out of our Winchester and Andover offices.
