Base Location: The role is a flexible hybrid working arrangement, although there is an expectation that 50% of your time will be visiting operational sites from across the Yorkshire region. A full UK driving license (with no more than 6 points) is an essential requirement of this role, with the ability to travel between sites.
Work type: Permanent. You'll be working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday within a 08.00 to 18.00 working window.

Where you fit in:
As a Storm Overflow Engineer, you will be responsible for the performance of all circa 2200 storm overflows within Yorkshire Water. Ensuring they are operating only when within compliance with our permits and looking for opportunities to reduce the frequency and impact of all storm overflows within YW. You will be responsible for investigating sites that trigger SOAF thresholds and identifying operational or capital solutions to reduce frequency and harm to the environment.
The role will be key to ensuring Yorkshire Water delivers its vision of a thriving Yorkshire: right for customers, right for the environment.
This role will also work closely with the Storm Overflow Discharge Reduction Plan ensuring all overflows are on target to meet the average of 10 spills per year by 2050 by detailing all investigation outputs and ensuring we are well positioned for the commencement of the AMP 8 Storm Overflow ODI.
Key accountabilities specific to the role:
Some of the key responsibilities you will have will include but are not limited to:
* To lead and drive excellent standards and behaviours in health and safety, risk management and the control of work activities.
* To investigate and develop sustainable solutions to operational shortfalls across all asset types (sewers, pumping stations and treatment works).
* Work closely with operational and technical teams to ensure the correct TOTEX solutions are identified.
* Use desktop and site investigations to create action plans for all frequently operating overflows to reduce harm to the environment.
* Utilise performance data to track performance and demonstrate benefits of interventions that have been delivered.
* Work with operational teams to ensure that unfunded risks are appropriately mitigated.
* Maintain the view of progress for each risk through the investment cycle, communicating this to stakeholders and ensuring that operational risks are mitigated.
* Work closely with Asset planning teams to ensure all available data is used to optimise the performance of the network.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements or use of innovative techniques to improve performance.
* Gain a greater understanding of the impact of proactive intervention on the sewer network, and work to influence future interventions.
* Lead on collating technical information for root cause reviews.
* Be part of creating a clear team identity that motivates and gains commitment and trust of stakeholders.
* Involve others from outside your immediate area in projects, be comfortable working across boundaries.
* Proactively manage personal and team energy to build trust and improve performance.
* Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work and ensure compliance with the YW Safety Policy.
Knowledge, Skills, experience Qualifications Required
Essential:
* Previous experience and knowledge of business process and operation within a regulated company and an understanding of the regulatory framework.
* Recognised qualification or proven technical experience in relation to Wastewater Operations.
* Understands Health and Safety legislation, policies, and requirements in relation to the sewerage network.
* Expert knowledge of at least 1 type of sewerage system assets (sewers/pumping stations/treatment works), common failure modes and solutions.
* Project management: Proven ability to project manage the implementation of projects.
* Knowledge of company Quality systems.
* Demonstrable experience of supporting and embedding change and influencing the performance of operational teams.
* Proven ability to prepare successful business cases for investment.
* Evidence of providing exceptional customer service.
* Understanding and experience of financial and cost centre management.
* Ability to acquire, understand, interpret, and disseminate information, both technical and financial.
* Proven planning ability - identifying priorities and actions to assist in delivering results.
* Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues to others.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, IT literate.
* Ability to build and maintain a network of working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* In-depth knowledge of Microsoft applications, YW telemetry and SAP systems.
* A full valid EU driving licence (no more than six points).
Desirable:
* Outline understanding of the E&M aspects of operating a sewerage system.
* Outline understanding of sewer, pumping station and treatment processes.
* H&S trained - minimum IOSH qualified.
