Are looking for a Deputy Manager in a children’s home playing an important leadership role in ensuring high standards of care, safety, and support for children and young people.
Job Title: Deputy Manager
Deputy Manager: Children’s Home (Learning Difficulties)
Reports To: Registered Manager
Working Hours: 7am - 4pm Monday to Friday as standard with agreed cover.
Salary: up to £37000 Per Year
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home.
Act as the Manager in their absence, ensuring continuity of care and leadership.
Supervise and support the staff team, conducting regular supervisions, appraisals, and team meetings.
Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff members.
Promote a positive and inclusive culture, leading by example in professional practice.
Safeguarding and Compliance
Ensure the home operates in line with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., Ofsted in the UK).
Act as a Designated Safeguarding Officer or support the Safeguarding Lead in managing safeguarding concerns.
Monitor risk assessments, incident reports, and safeguarding procedures to ensure the safety of all children.
Liaise with external professionals (e.g., social workers, schools, health services) to safeguard and promote the well-being of the children.
Care and Support
Ensure all children receive person-centred care that meets their physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
Oversee the implementation and review of individual care plans, working collaboratively with children and their families.
Promote positive behaviour support strategies and manage challenging behaviour effectively.
Support children in achieving their educational, social, and personal goals.
Operational Management
Assist in the management of budgets, resources, and staffing rotas to ensure efficient operation.
Monitor and maintain high standards of the physical environment, ensuring the home is safe and welcoming.
Contribute to quality assurance processes, such as audits and inspections, identifying areas for improvement.
Maintain accurate records, including care plans, incident logs, and staff records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection laws.
Team Development
Foster a supportive and development-focused environment for staff.
Identify and address training needs within the team.
Encourage reflective practice and continuous professional development.
Ensure staff understand and implement policies, procedures, and best practices.
Emergency and On-Call Duties
Participate in the on-call rota, responding to emergencies and supporting staff out of hours.
Manage crisis situations, offering guidance and support to staff and children.

A deep understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and children’s home regulations.

Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
At least 2 years of experience working in a children’s residential setting.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
Desirable:
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or a commitment to working towards it).
Experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
