Clinical: Work unsupervised, performing all CT, MR scans following imaging parameters set down in scanning protocols. Liaise with referral source where clarification is required regarding the selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination and prioritise cases by urgent clinical need Managerial responsibilities: Deputise in the absence of senior staff such as section heads for CT & MR or band 7 radiographers and be responsible for the smooth day to day running of the CT & MRI department. Be familiar with the range of technical applications available on imaging equipment. Monitor and report equipment faults and to determine the severity of the problem and its probable impact on the workload. To make a balanced judgement on when to call in a service engineer, considering the effect on the normal running of the CT/ MR Service. Communication: To assess specific communication needs of individual patients. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the MRI safety checklist impossible and implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained. Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during and after an examination. Analytical and judgemental skills: Use analytical and judgement skills with regard to the interpretation of clinical information. Advise radiologists of the technical capabilities of the CT and MRI scanners and suggest appropriate sequences to better demonstrate a variety of common pathologies. Responsibilities for Human Resources: To assist in the supervision and clinical instruction of undergraduate radiographic staff. To undertake formalised assessments of undergraduate students and document findings in accordance with each academic institution's requirements.
