The role of the Line Engineering Lead is to implement and/or to maintain and continuously improve the maintenance planning and scheduling (MPS) and breakdown elimination (BDE) daily management system (DMS) for their area, to coach line teams to improve technical ability, and to provide a continuity link to other Progressive Maintenance (PM) systems.
Responsibilities
1. To ensure the lines are not constrained due to the lack of technical capability or knowledge.
2. To ensure all maintenance tasks are planned, organized, and executed with the least effort at the best cost.
3. To transfer knowledge to the line teams, and to ensure that the proper level of skills and qualification successfully deploy the loss elimination skills needed for the line to deliver the line and team goals.
4. To provide coaching, teaching, and assessment of the Progressive Maintenance (PM) and the Autonomous Maintenance (AM) Steps implementation.
5. Planning and scheduling maintenance work. Reviewing and prioritizing SAP work orders and notifications within 24 hours of generation.
6. Ensuring that the work order backlog is current and sorted for reporting, and managing how best to meet the compelling business need (CBN).
7. Tracking and reporting maintenance indicator results and in-process measures.
8. Ensuring all equipment design change proposals (corrective maintenance) and adding/deleting/modifying work follow-up change management (CM) procedures.
9. Developing improvement plans. Identifying through the tracking of maintenance indicators and in-process measures.
10. Identifying losses and improvement themes to eliminate losses.
11. Owning, developing, and tracking improvement theme action plans.
12. Champion and lead the continuous improvement (CI) process.
Qualifications
1. Reduced number of breakdowns due to improper maintenance overhaul/restoration procedures.
2. Improved downtime due to scheduled maintenance being optimized, reduced, and at a target to deliver line goals in support of the compelling business need.
3. Updated standards and procedures; maintenance costs (parts and labor) reduced and in line with budget.
4. Equipment performance is controlled and predictable due to a percent increase of planned maintenance work.
What we're looking for:
1. Ideally you will have experience from a FMCG or similar production/manufacturing environment.
2. Ability to influence technicians, line operation leads, and process engineers, as required.
3. Ability to teach, coach, and develop others.
4. Have on-the-floor technical credibility with the people doing the work.
5. Have effective communication skills, including the ability to be an active listener, and also the ability to both positively confront and be assertive, when necessary.
6. Have a passion for the work, and the drive and ability to help others see the losses.
7. Be personally committed to the self-development required of the role.
8. Have integrated work system (IWS) and operational experience and skills, or the ability to quickly build the skills of at least the phase in which the plant or facility is currently working.
9. Have had a line assignment in manufacturing, and be capable of operating the equipment and of owning an area or piece of equipment, as necessary.
10. Possess a flexible mindset, e.g., a willingness to flow with the work, and to cover training and breaks, as required, to deliver the line key performance indicators (KPIs).
11. Be willing to actively participate in planned stops and changeovers (COs), flowing to the work as required.
12. Having a work process improvement (WPI) Level 4 capability is highly desirable.
