Job overview
Bedford Hospital NHS Trust is situated in the heart of Bedford town with excellent air, rail and road links and only 55 minutes away by train from London St Pancras station. The Bedford Hospital radiology department carries out a full range of diagnostic radiological examinations for Inpatient, Outpatients and AE patients.
We provide all Diagnostic modalities such as MRI (x3), CT (x3), U/S, DEXA, Nuclear Imaging, General Radiography, Theatres and Portables as well as a Cath Lab/ Vascular Interventional suite. The department also has trained forensic Radiographers.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, HCPC registered Radiographer who may be ready for their next promotion or looking to further their career with us in Bedford.
You will be working with the Modality Leads to provide a high level of patient care and supervising and developing junior staff and student Radiographers.

Main duties of the job
* Act as an Operator under IR(ME)R 2017 regulations, assess clinical justification of referrals to ensure that the benefit to the patient outweighs the radiation risk associated with the examination.
* Act as a patient and staff advocate by minimising their exposure to radiation.
* Provide efficient and courteous provision of radiographic services to the departments agreed standards whilst taking into account the patient’s clinical, physical and cultural needs.
* Responsible for own practice, correlating practice with Directorate protocols.
* Required to work without direct supervision or support in out of hours duties.
* In addition trains and supervises junior staff, student radiographers and other trainees.
* To rotate throughout the department including theatres.

* To provide guidance and support to junior members of staff.
* To work independently in an on-call/standby situation, and to provide specialist advice in their specific areas of expertise to all staff.
* To demonstrate a high level of expertise in at least one modality, modify technique when necessary to take into account the patient’s condition.
* To produce images of an optimum diagnostic quality to ensure Radiological interpretation is possible.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Diploma College of Radiographers or BSc Radiography.
* HCPC registration.
Experience
* Undertakes a range of X-ray procedures competently without supervision.
* Provides good level of patient care and has ability to assess clinical information and adjust technique to suit patient condition.
* Has experience working in theatres.
* Has CT experience.
Knowledge
* Has attended radiation protection training and adheres to and implements regulations.
Personal Skills
* Keyboard and basic skills.
