University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust seeks applicants for the position of Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine working full-time on a 10 PA contract to commence as soon as possible. Substantive and fixed-term 1-year contracts welcome; please state preferences in your application.
The posts reflect a firm commitment within UHBW to continue the expansion and development of the middle-grade workforce in Weston Emergency Department. The posts provide eligible individuals an ideal opportunity for continued professional development within the Department of Emergency Medicine (ED), which forms the Trust's emergency "front door".
Main Duties of the Job
* Providing direct clinical care to all patients.
* Formulating a diagnosis and developing a management strategy or plan for each patient.
* Providing patient management in accordance with Emergency Department protocols, practice standards, and Trust policies.
* Providing clear and precise written and electronic documentation of patient care.
* Providing advice and support to junior doctors on all aspects of emergency medicine.
* Participating in the current shift rota pattern.
* Participating and leading on clinical audits.
* Participating in the annual staff appraisal.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be in Emergency Medicine.
* Knowledge of the role of clinical governance in current clinical practice.
* Special interest in a subspecialty of emergency medicine, e.g., risk management, acute medicine, or pediatrics.
* Audit of Emergency Medicine.
* Experience of teaching both post and undergraduate students and professions allied to medicine.
* Experience of educating support staff.
* Knowledge of research techniques in clinical medicine.
* Knowledge of the use of patient databases and IT websites.
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to take on full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Written and spoken English skills that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
* Skills in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
* Good leadership and organisational skills.
* Flexibility to fit with service requirements and ability to work in a team.
* Honesty, reliability, and good personal organisation skills.
* Caring attitude towards patients and those close to them.
* Ability to negotiate for services and funding with other relevant parties.
* Evidence of appropriate management training.
* Interest in future research.
Qualifications
* MB ChB or equivalent.
* MRCEM or equivalent.
* Fully registered with the GMC.
* Provider in PALS/APLS, ALS, and ATLS or its equivalent.
* Teaching or training qualifications.
