An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, conscientious Band 6 Sister to join our dynamic team on the Respiratory/High Care Ward. Ward 5 is a 23 bedded Respiratory Ward caring for patients with a variety of respiratory issues, which at times can be complex and will involve other specialist input. The ward level 2 area has expanded to include delivering Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) in two 4 bedded high care areas to patients with or without Covid. Within these areas, patients are monitored and receive invasive procedures within their medical management plan(s). The Ward has a procedure room where chest drains/aspirations/ultrasounds are performed to afford patient dignity.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant must have prior experience within the Ward setting, being aware of the structure and workings of excellent patient care. They must possess positive and effective leadership during the shift, and be able to maintain high standards of care in the absence of the Ward manager. As a band 6 junior sister, you will work clinically as a member of the nursing team and in partnership with the Ward Manager to provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership for a ward-based team of qualified, non-qualified staff and student nurses. When ready, you will be required to deputize in the absence of the Ward Manager and ensure a positive patient experience through the delivery of high standards of patient care.
You will receive a period of supernumerary time, having the opportunity to work alongside the Respiratory Specialist Nurses, Respiratory Consultants, Outreach team, physiotherapists, pulmonary rehabilitation, and the opportunity to spend time on the Acute respiratory unit. We will also advocate time in the cardiology/coronary care unit for an overview of cardiorespiratory nursing.
Within Specialty Medicine, we as a team have developed a Band 6 development program. The aim of this program is to develop you as a leader and enable you to build on your management skills. We envisage that this program will allow you to be a fully competent band 6, Nurse In Charge and team leader, but will also help you to develop into an aspiring band 7 and above.
