To provide specialist advice and education to patients, carers and all health care professionals on all aspects of enteral and parenteral nutrition throughout the trust. To ensure the maintenance and development of clinical excellence in enteral and parenteral nutrition by informing and utilising the trust's policies, strategies, audit processes, education and research agenda. The post holder will work autonomously and make clinical decisions based on evidence and best practice in the absence of the lead nurse.
Main duties of the job
1. Providing specialist advice and support for patients receiving enteral and parenteral nutrition.
2. The band 6 nurse specialist nurse will be an integral part of the nutrition support team, prescribing complex parenteral nutrition and related products.
3. Attending and taking the lead where required in the enteral and MEED (medical emergencies in eating disorders) MDT.
4. Advising on best routes for nutrition and inserting enteral feeding tubes and devices.
5. Supporting patients in decision making regarding feeding, attending and acting as a specialist advisor in best interest meetings.
6. Providing education at ward level and planned education sessions for all members of the MDT.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
* Knowledge and experience in enteral and parenteral feeding.
* Ability to undertake full clinical assessments of patients, including those with multiple pathology and complex health and social needs.
* Ability to work autonomously and make decisions in the absence of the lead nurse.
* Knowledge and experience in teaching theory and practical skills.
* Experience in delivering training and education across the MDT.
* Experience of contributing to policy development and review.
Qualifications/Training
* NMC Current Registration.
* Extensive experience at Band 5.
* Mentorship/Teaching Qualification.
* Fine bore, gastrostomy and CVAD packages.
Personal Attributes & Skills
* Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner accountable for own actions.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Good insight and awareness of key issues in nutrition, new developments and innovations.
* Accessible and visible to team/clinical areas.
